The present invention provides a system for printing on balloons where the priming of the balloons to receive print is substantially free of bubbles, the system comprising locally applying to a balloon external surface or to a balloon precursor sheet from which a balloon is to be made in a defined, limited area of the balloon or of the balloon precursor sheet area that will be formed into a balloon one of: a) a pre-shaped self adhesive label comprising a layer of primer that is adhesive-backed; b) a coating of primer in a defined limited area of the external surface of the balloon or of the balloon precursor sheet area that will be formed into the external surface area of a balloon wherein the remaining external surface area of the balloon, at least on one side of the balloon, is coated with a primer repellent material; c) a coating of primer by a silk screen process wherein the applied primer is subjected to a partial vacuum in a vacuum chamber to draw air out from the coating and/ or is subjected to the action of a roller or scraper that is held or pressed lightly against the coating to squeeze air from the coating.

A method of hot-melt printing, comprising: printing a melt of an opaque material and at least one translucent pigmented material onto a nonwhite substrate, the opaque material and the at least one translucent pigmented material being supplied from different printheads. The opaque material and the at least one translucent pigmented material mix on the substrate. The printing further comprises: printing at least one desired color comprising multiple printed layers of the opaque material and the at least one translucent pigmented material. The multiple printed layers comprises: at least a first layer comprising the opaque material and the at least one translucent pigmented material, the first layer having a predetermined first ratio of opaque material to translucent pigmented material being less than or equal to 1:1; and at least a second layer comprising the opaque material and the at least one translucent pigmented material, the second layer having a predetermined second ratio of opaque material to translucent pigmented material being less than or equal to 1:1. The first ratio and the second ratio are substantially equal. A sum of the first printed layer and second printed layer produces the desired color being optically indistinguishable in the visual spectrum from the same color printed onto a white substrate using opaque color inks.

Plastic substrates are preferably films substrates, which are coated with a printable coating composition layer which comprises: an anionic acrylic polymer; and epoxy acrylate in an amount sufficient to improve ink adhesion in said coating composition. The anionic acryclic polymer can be cross-linked to an extent sufficient to improve the resistance of said coating to isopropyl alcohol and/or hot water, using a cross-linking agent.

Microporous polyolefÊn appliques are co-cured with an uncured portion of the article wherein a portion of elastomeric material of the article adjacent the applique impregnates the microporous polyolefÊn applique affixing the applique thereto. The elastomeric article further includes the microporous polyolefin applique impregnating the elastomeric material of the article. Thermoplastic polyurethane appliques are affixed to at least a portion of an elastomeric article using an adhesive.

A transparent plastic film suited for offset printing or letterpress printing using an oxidation-polymerizable oil ink, which has at least on one side thereof an ink-fixing layer containing as major components a rubber resin and/or a styrene resin. This film enables lithographic offset printing, etc. to be conducted without spoiling film transparency. Further, since the surface of the film is minutely roughened or is subjected to antistatic treatment, sheet-fed printing of the film sheets can be free from blocking, tacking, flaw formation, and abrasion. A transparent plastic film having provided thereon an ink-fixing layer by applying a mixture of the above-described rubber resin and/or styrene resin solution and silica sol has more improved properties described above.
