摘要： The invention provides a composite diamond abrasive compact comprising a thermally stable diamond compact directly bonded to a cemented carbide substrate. The thermally stable diamond compact comprises bonded diamond forming a coherent, skeletal mass and a second phase which preferably consists of silicon and/or silicon carbide. A method of producing the composite diamond abrasive compact under controlled elevated temperature and pressure conditions is also provided.

摘要： Metal surfaces such as the working surfaces of nickel plated blanks for rigid memory discs are polished in a two- stage process of rough and finish polishing by a combination of mechanial and chemical mechanisms. Each stage involves a plurality of cycles in which the surface is polished using a rotating polishing pad with an aqueous suspension of aluminum oxide containing a lubricant-surfactant and a chlorine-containing oxidizing agent present at the surface- pad interface followed by the addition of an aqueous colloidal aluminum oxide sol to the oxidizing agent-containing suspension at the interface which frees the chlorine in the oxidizing agent to exert a chemical polishing action on the surface.

摘要： Boron rich cubic boron nitride suitable for use in electroplating processes (e.g., nickel plating) has been made by an acid leaching process. Boron rich aggregated cubic boron nitride grinding grits are leached in a mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids, the following conditions being typical:
(a) volume ratio of 67% nitric acid to 98% sulfuric acid of 10:20; (b) temperature of 250°C; and (c) for a time of 1 hour. The process removes sufficient free surface boron to reduce the conductivity at the surface, resulting in an abrasive which does not overplate. Figure 1 is a photomicrograph of a typical plated surface containing the improved CBN grinding grit of this invention.-
