摘要: In a thin-type liquid crystal display device of this invention, a display section (10) is formed on a printed circuit board (14) and has a matrix array of display cells (12), address lines (16, 18) connected to the row arrays of the display cells and data lines (20, 22) connected to the column arrays of the display cells. Row and column switching selectors (40, 42) are provided on the printed circuit board (14). The respective selectors (40, 42) include a parallel array of switches, such as TFTs. The row selector (40) is connected to the address lines (16, 18) for sequentially selecting address lines (16, 18) through a scanning operation for image display. The column selector (42) is connected to the data lines (20, 22) for subjecting incoming one image data to a time-division multiplexing and for sequentially supplying block-segmented image data components to the data lines (20, 22).

摘要: A quickly testable subassembly with redundant isolation devices usable in a liquid crystal display has a pair of coplanar spaced apart alectrode segments connected to one or more-isolation devices. Address lines are connected to the isolation devices or the electrodes. The isolation devices and electrical connections to the electrode segments can be quickly tested prior to assembly of a complete display. Redundant isolation devices are formed on the subassembly and inoperative isolation devices can be replaced by associated redundant isolation devices. A method of quickly testing the subassembly and of replacing inoperative isolation devices, and several alternate quickly restable subassembly geometries are also disclosed. A self-selecting redundant geometry and method are also disclosed.

摘要: A liquid crystal display (20) includes liquid crystal material contained within a defined cavity (34), and the optical characteristics are changed in response to electrical excitation signals to produce an information display and to erase the display. The display includes a pair of substrates (30,32) between which the liquid crystal material, which may include dipolar particles, is situated. The substrates are spaced by spacing particles applied to at least one of the substrates, and connected to driving electronics by bonding the electrical circuit leads (38,40,42) to flexible electric circuit elements.

This method can be applied in a printer using the optical switch element.

摘要: Light influencing subassemblies and displays each having a structure in which all of the pixel electronic circuitry, including isolation devices where utilized, are located at one electrode side of each pixel electrode combination. The structure includes the subdivision of one pixel electrode into at least two spaced apart side-by-side electrode segments opposite a common electrode. The displays include light influencing material disposed between the segmented and common electrodes. The electrode segments further can include at least one isolation device coupled to at least one of the segments which facilitates selective excitation of the pixel elements and applied potential reversal across the electrodes during alternate display frames. The displays have an increased manufacturing yield, reduced capacitance and increased isolation. Also disclosed is a method of making the subassemblies and displays.

摘要: A color liquid crystal display device which comprises picture element electrodes arranged in a matrix that is made up of the intersecting points of row electrodes and column electrodes, a 1st circuit board with switching elements that are connected to these picture element electrodes, a 2nd circuit board with opposing electrodes, a liquid crystal layer that is inserted in between the said 1st and 2nd circuit boards, a color filter with a specific pattern in between the said 1st and 2nd circuit boards, and a column electrode drive circuit that applies voltage corresponding to color arrangement of the color filter and the density of the display to the said column electrode. The column electrode drive circuit includes a sampling circuit which samples the momentary voltage corresponding to the display picture element out of the display signals that are input.

摘要: Arrangements of picture-element electrodes of a color liquid-crystal display apparatus. In a color liquid-crystal display apparatus using mosaic arrangements, the same color of picture elements which are driven by the same signal electrode are alternately arranged right and left. Accordingly, all the necessary thing is that the same color of picture signal is applied upon the same signal electrode in spite of the mosaic arrangement. Thus, a circuit is rendered unnecessary which switches a color image signal of an analog line memory, so that the driving circuit is extremely simplified.

Bei der ersten Betriebs spannung (V₁) ist nur ein erster optischer Zustand (Z1) stabil, bei der zweiten Betriebsspannung (V₂) nur ein zweiter optischer Zustand (Z2). Alle Anzeige-Elemente können über einen einzigen Schreibspannungspuls gleichzeitig zur Anzei ge gebracht werden. Dadurch wird eine kontrastreiche, stete und sofortige Anzeige der gesamten Anzeigefläche erreicht. Ein zeilenweises Schreiben ist jedoch auch möglich. Zudem wird eine auf den Bistabilitätseffekt beruhende Flüssigkristal lanzeige vorgestellt mit einem Gast-Wirt-Flüssigkristall (30), der einen chiralen Zusatz enthält. Die Schichtdicke (d) des Flüssigkristalls (30) ist kleiner als 10 µm und das Verhältnis von Schichtdicke (d) und Ganghöhe (p) des Gast-Wirt- Flüssigkristalls (30) liegt zwischen 0,5 und 1,75. Verteilt über den ganzen. Sichtbereich sind Abstandshalter (24) vorge sehen.
