Method and device for reducing the error of the rake angle from the tangential position on a rotating disc during the transmission of information. Essentially at one end of an arm, of which the other end is provided with a converter to transmit the signal, there is provided a guiding unit movable along a path so that it provides continuously for the tangential position of the converter. The method and the device provides for the complete elimination of the error of the angle of rake of the tangential position and are applicable whenever rotating discs carrying information are used, particularly during the manufacturing of turntables and magnetic memories of calculators requiring a small error of the angle of rake.

A transmitting member (18) is mounted between a pickup (16) slidably supported along guide shafts (13, 14) and a feeding screw (15) having a helical groove on a peripheral surface thereof. A turning force of the feeding screw (15) is transmitted to the pickup (16) through the transmitting member (18) so that the pickup (16) is transferred to a side of an information recording and reproducing medium. Tooth portions (24, 25) engaged with the helical groove are formed at one end of the transmitting member (18). A regulating portion (21) is formed at a side opposed with the tooth portions (24, 25) through the feeding screw (15), namely the feeding screw (15) is disposed between the tooth portions (24, 25) and the regulating portion (21). There is provided a gap (D2) between the peripheral surface of the feeding screw (15) and the regulating portion (21), which is shorter than a depth (P) of the helical groove. This construction enables the feeding screw (15) to smoothly rotate, and further allows the regulating portion (21) to regulate the displacement of the feeding screw (15) when an external shock is exerted on the system (9), namely the engaging condition between the helical groove and the tooth portion (24, 25) is always kept. Thus, transferring means of the pickup (16) robust against external shocks can be provided.

The present invention provides a complete digital data storage (DDS) magnetic tape system for utilization with a host unit. The invention comprises a host device interface for interfacing the host unit with the DDS system, a controller/formatter for encoding and decoding data from and to the magnetic tape, an automatic track follower (ATF) for performing automatic track following on the magnetic tape, a driver for driving the magnetic tape, a read/write (R/W) channel for channeling data thereto and therefrom, a read/write (R/W) head drum for transferring data to and from the magnetic tape, and the controller/formatter, the ATF, the driver, the R/W channel, and the R/W head drum all being under software programmable control.
