摘要:
A write-once optical disc which uses a short-wavelength laser (wavelength = 600 nm or less) allows BCA information recording even using a long-wavelength laser (wavelength falling within a range from 600 nm to 800 nm). To this end, a groove is cut in advance on a BCA part on a molded substrate of the optical disc to store a dye. In this way, the sensitivity of the dye in the BCA increases, to allow a laser having a wavelength (a wavelength falling within the range from 600 nm to 800 nm) other than the wavelength (e.g., 405 nm) corresponding to information recording of the dye to record a barcode pattern on the BCA.

An optical disc (10) comprises at least one storage layer (13) with at least one portion of content being a movie and at least one other portion of content being an advertisement. Initially, the advertisement is visible, but after some time the advertisement is no longer visible. The optical disc may be provided with a label (16) containing an advertisement image (43) which initially is visible but after some time is no longer visible. The optical disc may be accommodated in a storage box (100) provided with an advertisement image (143) which initially is visible but after some time is no longer visible.

An optical disc having a plurality of sectors, each of which includes a plurality of frames. Sub information bit value '0' or '1' is assigned to the plurality of frames constituting a sector, excluding the first and last frames. Edge positions are displaced so that leading/lagging errors appear in accordance with a certain rule when data fields of the frames to which sub information bit value '1' is assigned are read. Edge positions are displaced so that leading/lagging errors appear in accordance with a reversed rule of the certain rule when data fields of the frames to which sub information bit value '0' is assigned are read.

A storage medium initializing method includes steps of recording on a storage medium a management table configured to manage a replacement area for a defect area in a data area in the storage medium; recording a unique identification on the storage medium; and recording management data in the data area. The step of recording a unique identification includes recording the unique identification on the storage medium, but outside an area managed by the management data. The method optional includes initialization and cancellation steps.

A recording medium which realizes high sound quality and is playable on a conventional playback device has a recording layer provided with a double-layered structure having at least a first layer L1 and a second layer L2, an audio data program is recorded on the first layer in the first data format, which is the conventional format, and the audio data program is recorded on the second layer in a second, new data format. The audio data programs recorded on the first layer and on the second layer are the same program and can be produced using 1-bit DELTA SIGMA modulation having a high sampling rate as the new format, the DELTA SIGMA modulated signal being passed through successive decimation filters to form the lower sampling rate signal of the conventional format. The double-layered disk can be played back using a disk judging unit that detects the disk's table of contents and controls a laser beam focus of a pick up, an operating clock frequency, and the decoder for reading out the data recorded in pits formed on the disk.

A cleaning device for cleaning magnetic head and photo pickup of a compact disc drive includes a playback-only disc medium received in a recording-enable disc cartridge. The disc medium has a Read-in TOC area for recording medium identification information to indicate a recording-enable disc medium, a User TOC area, a Recorded area, and a No-record area radially sequentially surrounding the Read-in TOC area. Information for managing records on the Recorded area is recorded in the User TOC area. A cleaning sheet for cleaning the magnetic head is attached to entire surface of the disc medium facing the magnetic head. The Recorded area is radially divided into three sub-areas. The inner sub-area has voice messages of "Cleaning starts" or for operating methods recorded therein, the middle sub-area has 30 minutes of silence and has a brush mounted thereto for cleaning the photo pickup, and the outer sub-area has a voice message of "Cleaning ends" recorded therein. The inner and the middle sub-areas are identified as a magnetic track No. 1 and the outer sub-area a magnetic track No. 2.

A tape cassette is which a tape body is wound around a couple of tape reels rotatably supported to a cassette body. The cassette body has a first write inhibition mechanism provided at a place corresponding to the place where a write inhibition mechanism is provided in another tape cassette compatibly loaded in a recording/reproducing apparatus in which the tape cassette of the invention is loaded and a second write inhibition mechanism at a place not corresponding to the place where a write inhibition mechanism is provided in the other tape cassette, thereby making the first write inhibition mechanism always in a write-inhibition state. Even if a tape cassette on which an information signal is recorded in a recording format is loaded in a recording/reproducing apparatus for tape cassettes of a specific recording format which is one of different recording formats and is different from the recording format of the loaded tape cassette, the recording of information signals in the tape cassette is inhibited to protect the data already recorded.
