First and second Schottky diodes are formed in a respective first and second isolated epitaxial (epi) regions of a monolithic integrated circuit to inhibit current spikes that may otherwise occur as the monolithic circuit is inserted or removed from a "hot" socket having both an input signal and an operating potential supplied thereto. The monolithic circuit includes a floating resistor formed in a first isolated epi region which is connected between the input of the monolithic circuit to which the input signal is supplied and the base of a transistor. The transistor is formed in a third epi region which is isolated from both the first and second epi regions. The second epi region, which may contain one or more circuit elements, is contacted to the operating potential. The Schottky diodes provide clamping across the base-emitter junctions of two parasitic transistors which form a SCR that can be rendered conductive by the substrate not being grounded. The SCR is inhibited from being turned on by the two Schottky clamping diodes.

Beim Einschalten des Verbrauchers wird der Energiespeicher (2) über den Ladezweig aufgeladen. Im ungestörten Betrieb wird der Energiespeicher (2) nicht entladen. Sobald die Eingangsspannung am Gleichrichter (1′) unterbrochen wird, wird dem Energiespeicher (2) über die Diode (4) Strom entnommen, da die Spannung am Verbraucher kleiner wird wie die Spannung am Energiespei cher (2). Wenn die Eingangsspannung wieder anliegt, wird der Energiespeicher sanft aufgeladen.

An alternating current limiting type semiconductor current circuit breaker for a transmission or distribution line system comprises: a first circuit formed of a transformer or reactor (1) and a capacitor or capacitors (2, 20) which provide a series resonant circuit during steady-state operation of the line system, a second circuit connected in series with the secondary winding side of the transformer and formed by a resistor (4) and a nonlinear resistance element (30), a third circuit connected in parallel with said first circuit and formed by a series connection of a reactor (5) and resistor (6), and a semiconductor switchin device (7) connected in series with the parallel connection of said first and third circuits. The nonlinear solid-state resistance element (30) is a zinc oxide nonlinear type resistance element the resistance of which is lowered upon occurrence of an earth fault or the like to provide for an increase in the combined impedance of the parallel connection of said first and third circuits for limiting the overcurrent flowing through the current circuit breaker.
