    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict deterioration of emission of exhaust when it is cool by providing technology for efficiently conducting purification of unburnt fuel components and heating of exhaust in an exhaust heating device for heating exhaust while purifying unburnt fuel components included in exhaust. SOLUTION: This exhaust heating device for an internal combustion engine is provided with an exhaust restrictor valve to regulate flow of exhaust flowing through an exhaust passage, a valve control means for controlling the exhaust restrictor valve to be roughly totally closed for reducing unburnt fuel components included in exhaust, an engine air-fuel ratio control means for operating an internal combustion engine at a stoiciometrie air-fuel ratio or fuel rich air-fuel ratio when the exhaust restrictor valve is controlled to be roughly totally closed by the valve control means, and a secondary air supply means to supply secondary air to an upsteam part in the exhaust passage when the exhaust restrictor valve is controlled to be roughly totally closed by the valve control means.

SOLUTION: This device has a NOX catalyst 11 capable of deoxidizing NOX in an oxidizing atmosphere containing a reducing agent, and having a reducing agent storage capacity arranged inside an engine exhaust passage. Reducing agent storing volume that indicates volume of reducing agent stored in the NOX catalyst 11 is obtained to obtain reducing agent feeding volume that is volume of reducing agent required to be fed to the NOX catalyst 11 on the basis of the reducing agent storing volume. A reducing agent is fed from a reducing agent feeding device 13 to the NOX catalyst 11 by the reducing agent feeding volume to deoxidixe NOX. A difference of the reducing agent storing volume comparing to the volume of reducing agent actually stored in the NOX catalyst 11 is judged if it is larger than an acceptable value or not. When the difference is judged to be larger than the acceptable value, NOX catalyst 11 is heated by a catalyst heating device 17 to have the whole reducing agent stored in the NOX catalyst 11 released from the NOX catalyst 11, and the reducing agent storing volume is returned to be zero.

An exhaust gas temperature at an exhaust port outlet is detected by a temperature sensor 32, and the opening of the exhaust control valve 24 is controlled so that the exhaust gas temperature is adjusted to a target value.

A three-way valve 97 is interposed in an exhaust passage 35 connecting the downstream end of the combustion heater 17 connected to a car compartment heater 9 to the main stream pipe 29, thereby supplying combustion gas of the combustion heater 17 as a reducing agent to a catalytic converter 39 through an introduction path 99.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent discharging of SOx absorbed by occulusion reduction type NOx catalyst when a car is stopped or driven with extremely low speed. SOLUTION: After SOx is absorbed by an NOx catalyst 17 by a specific amount, an ECU 30 determines a discharging timing of SOx. The ECU 30 performs stoichi controlling of an air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas for discharging SOx from the NOx catalyst 17 while keeping temperature of the exhaust gas at a specified value or higher. That is, it performs high temperature stoichi controlling for discharging SOx. However, when the running speed of a car sensed by a vehicular speed sensor 27 is not higher than a lower limit value, that is, the car is stopped or driven with extremely low speed, the high temperature stoichi controlling is suspended. Low temperature stoichi controlling where the exhaust air-fuel ratio is kept in stoichi state and the exhaust gas temperature is kept lower than SOx discharge reduction temperature is executed, so that SOx discharging from the NOx catalyst is suspended to thereby discontinue a SOx discharging treatment.
