Abstract: {Technical Problem} To provide an alkaline-niobate-based piezoelectric/electrostrictive ceramic composition that has excellent electric field induced strain during application of high electric field. {Solution} A piezoelectric/electrostrictive ceramic sintered body has a microstructure in which a matrix phase and an additional material phase having different compositions coexist and the additional material phase is dispersed in the matrix phase. A residual strain ratio of the additional material phase alone is larger than a residual strain ratio of the matrix phase alone. The matrix phase and the additional material phase have a composition in which a Mn compound containing Mn atoms of 0 parts by mol or more and 3 parts by mol or less and a Sr compound containing Sr atoms of 0 parts by mol or more and 1 part by mol or less are contained in a composite of 100 parts by mol represented by a general formula {Li y (Na 1-x K x ) 1-y } a (Nb 1-z-w Ta z Sb w )O 3 , where a, x, y, z and w satisfy 0.9‰¤a‰¤1.2, 0.2‰¤x‰¤0.8, 0.0‰¤y‰¤0.2, 0‰¤z‰¤0.5 and 0‰¤w‰¤0.1, respectively. Zero or one kind of element is not common to constituent elements of the matrix phase and constituent elements of the additional material phase in comparison therebetween.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a (Li, Na, K)(Nb, Ta)O 3 -based piezoelectric/electrostrictive ceramic composition whose electric-field-induced strain is large when applied with a high electric field. SOLUTION: The raw material powders of the (Li, Na, K)(Nb, Ta)O 3 -based piezoelectric/electrostrictive ceramic composition are produced by such steps that a first step to calcine the powders of mixed basic raw materials using a calcination profile at the maximum temperature of 600°C or higher and 800°C or lower in air atmosphere, a second step to pulverize obtained powders in the first step so as to be a BET specific surface area of 5 m 2 /g or more and 15 m 2 /g or less, a third step to calcine obtained powders in the second step using a calcination profile at the maximum temperature of 650°C or higher and 900°C or lower and a fourth step to pulverize obtained powders in the third step so as to be a BET specific surface area of 10 m 2 /g or less.
