Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for suppressing emission of exhaust gas which is not sufficiently purified by adequately collecting exhaust gas even after completing warming-up of a catalyst provided in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine.
SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device 10 of an internal combustion engine 1 is applied to the internal combustion engine in which a catalyst 7 to demonstrate the purifying performance by the warming-up after the engine start is provided in an exhaust passage 4, and takes out exhaust gas from the exhaust passage 4 and collects it in a collection vessel 11. The device monitors whether or not the internal combustion engine 1 is operated in a predetermined state in which the purifying degree of exhaust gas passing through the catalyst 7 is degraded outside a permissible range for an objective period after the warming-up after the engine start is once completed. When the internal combustion engine 1 is operated in the predetermined state, exhaust gas is collected to the collection vessel 11.

SOLUTION: An auxiliary catalyst is arranged in an exhaust passage on the downstream side of a particulate filter supporting a NOx catalyst. Prior to particulate oxidation control for oxidizing accumulated particulates on the particulate filter, SOx removal control is performed for removing SOx deposited on the auxiliary catalyst. Prior to accumulated SOx reduction control for reducing the accumulated SOx in the NOx catalyst, SOx removal control is performed. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove SOF adhered to a NOX catalyst. SOLUTION: NOX catalysts 6a, 6b for purifying NOX in exhaust emission emitted from an internal combustion engine are provided in branched emission passages 3a, 3b. The catalyst maintains SOX when the surrounding atmosphere is under lean atmosphere, while it desorbs the maintained SOX therefrom when the atmosphere is converted to rich atmosphere and the temperature exceeds a SOX desorbing temperature. When SOX is to be desorbed from the catalyst, the temperature of the catalyst is increased to the SOX desorbing temperature and a SOX desorption treatment converting the surrounding atmosphere to the rich atmosphere is performed, thereby desorbing SOX from the catalyst. While the desorption treatment is being performed, the surrounding atmosphere of the catalyst is temporarily put under lean atmosphere in prescribed operating conditions showing a reduction in SOX desorption efficiency due to the adhesion of SOF. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a particulate oxidation removal level and a NOX purification level in an exhaust emission control device comprising a particulate filter capable of oxidizing and removing particulates continuously and purifying NOX. SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device comprises a pair of particulate filters 22a and 22b disposed parallel in an exhaust passage, and a combustor 74 for supplying the filters with exhaust gas having a temperature increasing capacity higher than that of engine exhaust gas capable of increasing a filter temperature. The filters carry a NOX catalyst and an oxidizing substance. When NOX absorbed in a NOX catalyst should be reduced, an inflow of engine exhaust gas is checked into the filter carrying the NOX catalyst whose NOX should be reduced, and the filter is supplied by the combustor with exhaust gas of a rich air-fuel ratio so that the filter temperature is held higher than a continuously particulate oxidizing temperature within a NOX reducing temperature range.

SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device is provided with a particulate filter 70 for oxidizing scavenged particulate, and a reversing means 71. The reversing means 71 is provided with a valve element 71a, and the valve element is switched from one position to the other position to reverse the exhaust emission upstream and the exhaust emission downstream of the particulate filter. A first scavenging surface and a second scavenging surface of a scavenging wall are alternately used to scavenge the particulate, and the valve element is put in a closing position between one position and the other position, thereby substantially closing an engine exhaust system.
