PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable liquid crystal composition capable of providing an optical anisotropic body reducing light scattering, preventing depolarization and having good depolarization controlling performance.SOLUTION: A polymerizable liquid crystal composition controls the Xa value represented by the formula (Ia), Xa=(a+0.19b)+0.0215(c+0.19d) (Ia) to be 825 or less, when the concentration of tri- to tetra-mer impurities having a cyano group is a (ppm), the concentration of dimer impurities having a cyano group is b (ppm), the concentration of tri- to tetra-mer impurities not having a cyano group is c (ppm) and the concentration of dimer impurities not having a cyano group is d (ppm) of an oligomer impurities in a polymerizable liquid crystal composition consisting of the general formulae (a) and (b).

A liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound of the present invention has excellent characteristics of being able to prepare a PSA type liquid crystal display element with no problem of depositing in a wide temperature range, having high polymerization speed, high liquid crystal alignment regulation force after polymerization, excellent display qualities with no display unevenness or the like, and excellent display characteristics with no defects in display characteristics such as image sticking and is appropriate as a liquid crystal composition in a practical use. Further, the liquid crystal display element with the above-described liquid crystal composition can be appropriately used for a PSA type liquid crystal display element.

In Formula (I), A 1 and A 2 each independently denote a group in which a Hammett substituent constant value σp is at least 0.2 or A 1 and A 2 are combined to form an annular active methylene compound structure; and X 1 and X 2 each independently denote a hydrogen atom, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, a cyano group, an N-alkyl or arylcarbamoyl group, or an alkyl or aryloxycarbonyl group, or X 1 and X 2 are combined to form a saturated ring structure which makes a nitrogen atom and a carbon atom a ring structuring atom, and these groups or rings may have a substituent if possible.
