PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a warm-up accelerating system allowing easy recognition of proceedings of a warm-up stroke and a heat storage stroke. SOLUTION: The warm-up accelerating system displays graphics showing the proceedings of the warm-up stroke and the heat storage stroke on a display. With the expression of the proceedings in color variation, a driver easily recognizes the operated conditions of the warm-up accelerating system. Since the graphics are changed corresponding to the operated conditions of the warm-up accelerating system, the driver can wait for finishing the warm-up stroke with a good view thereof. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an engine operation characteristic changing means in a stand-by state for locking engagement so that the engagement of a lock means can be rapidly and surely performed when the lock means must be operated in the engine operation characteristic changing means capable of variably controlling intake compression ratio and being locked in a controlled one operating state by a hydraulic-operated locking means. SOLUTION: When an internal combustion engine is stopped, the engine operation characteristic changing means is set to an attitude so that hydraulic oil is easily discharged by gravity from the locking means.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an engine operation characteristic changing means to facilitate the matching operation of the engine operation characteristic changing means for operating a lock means and assure the engagement of the lock means in the engine operation characteristic changing means capable of variably controlling an intake compression ratio and locking the compression ratio in one controlled operation state by the lock means. SOLUTION: When the engine operation characteristic changing means is locked into one operating state by the engagement of the lock means, a swing to accelerate an engagement is applied to the lock means added for the matching of the engine operation characteristic changing means for locking.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an engine operation characteristic changing means to cope with generation of unwelcome intake compression ratio increased lock, in the engine operation characteristic changing means capable of variably controlling an intake compression ratio and being locked to an operation state for enhancing the intake compression ratio by a lock means. SOLUTION: When the engine operation characteristic changing means should not be in the operation state for enhancing the intake compression ratio, whether or not there is a possibility of the locking means locking the changing means to the operation state is determined. When the possibility of the locking is predicted, countermeasures for preventing the locking operation are taken.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start an internal combustion engine for an automobile possible to control to increase an intake air compression ratio before performing the cranking for facilitating a start of the internal combustion engine in the cold temperature condition as quickly as possible without generating vibration and increasing the intake compression ratio as long as capacity of a capacitor as a cranking power source allows. SOLUTION: An effective output of the capacitor for a cranking motor is the predetermined output threshold value showing the excellent capacity condition or more is judged, and when the effective output is more than the predetermined output threshold value, cranking is performed without increasing the intake air compression ratio independently of the engine temperature.

SOLUTION: After completion of warm-up of an engine 22, upon satisfaction of an exhaust gas recirculation condition by setting the drive mode of a hybrid vehicle 20 to a normal mode according to the driver's accelerator operation, when a power difference ΔPe representing a decrease rate of a power demand Pe* required for the engine 22 is less than a preset reference value α, the engine 22 and motors MG1 and MG2 are controlled to ensure output of a power equivalent to the power demand Pe* from the engine 22 with prohibition for exhaust gas recirculation via an EGR valve 143 and to ensure output of a torque equivalent to a torque demand Tr* to a ring gear shaft 32a or an axle (steps S300 to S330 and step S390). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power output device for a vehicle that enables a hybrid vehicle to make a turnout travel even if an EGR device mounted on the hybrid vehicle gets out of order. SOLUTION: The power output device for the vehicle includes an engine 2, an exhaust recirculation mechanism which recirculates part of exhaust to an intake system of the engine 2, an electric motor for driving wheels, and a control unit 14 which controls the engine 2 and motor. The control unit 14 allows the engine 2 to intermittently operate after the vehicle is started when the exhaust recirculation mechanism is normal, and inhibits the engine 2 from intermittently operating after the vehicle is started if the exhaust recirculation mechanism becomes abnormal. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further properly operate an internal combustion engine, even when a sticking quantity of foreign matter of an exhaust supply device increases, by further properly estimating the sticking quantity of the foreign matter sticking to the exhaust supply device, in an internal combustion engine device having the exhaust supply device capable of supplying exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine to the intake side. SOLUTION: When EGR valve opening EV is larger than 0%, when a sticking quantity estimating integral value Dep integrated based on the air-fuel ratio AF and the EGR valve opening EV is less than a threshold value Depref (S130), an engine 22 is controlled for operation by accompanying EGR according to a condition for executing the EGR (S140-S230), and when the sticking quantity estimating integral value Dep is the threshold value Depref or more (S130), the engine 22 is controlled for operation by stopping the EGR (160-S230). Thus, a sticking quantity of a deposit sticking to an EGR valve can be further properly estimated, and even when the sticking quantity of the deposit increase, the engine can be properly operated. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of exhaust properties in starting an internal combustion engine in a vehicle having the intermittently operated internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An engine ECU 1000 carries out intermittent operation control on an engine 120 mounted to a hybrid vehicle. The engine 120 is provided with an EGR device, and its flow rate is controlled by an EGR valve 502 via an EGR pipe 500 from the downstream side of a three-way catalyst converter 900. When an engine stop request is made, the engine ECU 1000 makes the engine 120 perform idle operation and outputs a control signal (a valve closing signal) to the EGR valve 502 to stop operation of an EGR. Then, the engine ECU 1000 estimates a residual amount of EGR gas inside an intake pipe based on an intake air amount detected by an air flow meter and the like, and if the estimated EGR gas residual amount is not above a predetermined value, the engine ECU 1000 carries out engine stopping process.
