PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for carrying out an oxidation treatment of toluene, which is first excellent in reaction efficiency and second, simply and easily achievable. SOLUTION: The apparatus 2 and the method of carrying out an oxidation treatment employ a microreactor 1 including a micro flow path 3, a photocatalyst 4, and an ultraviolet irradiation means 5. The photocatalyst 4 exhibits an oxidative power when irradiated with ultraviolet rays. In the micro flow path 3, toluene fed thereinto by pressure is first oxidized to form a benzyl cation, subsequently the benzyl cation moves into water injected midway by pressure thereinto to react with water to form benzyl alcohol, and subsequently, the resulting benzyl alcohol is oxidized to form benzaldehyde. The oxidation is carried out on an interface 17 between a laminar flow layer 14 of toluene and the photocatalyst 4, and on an interface 18 between a laminar flow layer 15 of water and the photocatalyst 4, by molecular diffusion. The transference into water and the reaction with water of the benzyl cation are carried out on an interface 16 between the toluene layer 14 and the water layer 15, by molecular diffusion. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molded article of a sulfonic acid group-containing carbonaceous material, which has high catalytic activity and can be applied to a fixed bed flow reaction system. SOLUTION: The molded article of the sulfonic acid group-containing carbonaceous material containing sulfonic acid groups in a high content and having high solid acid catalytic activity can be obtained by molding and curing a mixture of a powdery carbide and an organic binder and then subjecting the resulting carbide molded article to a sulfonation treatment. The molded article can be used for performing various reactions such as hydration, etherification/esterification of an olefin, esterification of a carboxylic acid and an alcohol, hydrolysis of an ester, or acid hydrolysis of a hydroperoxide in a fixed bed flow reaction system. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anti-propionibacterium compound having an antibacterial action on propionibacterium as a causative bacterium of acne under circumstances that although diterpene compounds as natural products widely distributed in the plant kingdom have biological activity, it is not obvious whether or not they have antibacterial properties on propionibacterium, and to provide an external-use dermatological preparation containing the anti-propionibacterium compound. SOLUTION: The external-use dermatological preparation contains at least one anti-propionibacterium compound selected from the group consisting of the 6 compounds represented by the structural formula. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a vicinal difluoro aromatic compound in a high yield. SOLUTION: The invention provides a method of preparing vicinal difluoro aromatic compounds in a high yield from hydroxy aromatic compounds using various bases, and a method of preparing intermediates thereof. The invention further provides a method for producing a vicinal difluoro halogenated aromatic compound comprising providing a tetrafluoro derivative of a halogen substituted aromatic compound and reacting the tetrafluoro derivative with a reducing agent in the presence of a base for a reaction time sufficient to form the vicinal difluoro halogenated aromatic compound containing two vicinal fluorine substituents and the at least one additional halogen substituent, wherein the tetrafluoro derivative has two fluorine atoms on each of two adjacent carbons and at least one additional halogen substituent and the reducing agent is used in a reducing agent effective amount sufficient to retain the at least one additional halogen substituent.
