Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine capable of surely expanding a stratified combustion area to a high load side by assuring a reliable ignitability. SOLUTION: This cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine comprises an ignition plug, a cavity 802 formed in the top face of a piston, and a fuel injection nozzle 7 injecting fuel into the cavity in generally rather thin fan shape. The cavity comprises side walls deflected so that fuel can generally pass near the ignition plug. A plurality of deflection guiding projected parts 22 deflecting fuel in lateral direction are provided in the cavity.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently reduce fuel consumption by enlarging a stratified combustive area, by increasing air intake by an intake increasing means when the necessary fuel amount determined on the basis of at least the engine operating condition exceeds a specific amount, for the stratified combustion which realizes the leans burn with low fuel consumption. SOLUTION: When an amount of fuel injection from a fuel injection valve 1e is smaller than a specific amount, the injected fuel is completely vaporized, and an air-fuel mixture of high ignitability, comprising the vaporized fuel and the intake, is formed near an ignition plug 1a at an ignition time, whereby the stratified combustion of low fuel consumption is performed. But when the fuel injection amount exceed the specific amount, the air intake amount per unit fuel is reduced, and the injected fuel can not get sufficient heat from the intake, so that the supercharging is executed by a turbocharger 4 to increase the intake amount corresponding to an amount exceeding the specific amount. Whereby the intake amount per unit fuel can be kept in the same condition as the time when the fuel injection amount is equal to the specific amount, and the injected fuel can be vaporized in a short time.

A control circuit 30 sets the valve timing according to the engine speed and respective driving conditions of a load, etc. Moreover, when the valve timing is set, the control circuit 30 sets the valve timing under respective driving conditions within the specific deviation from the optimum valve timing in full loading in the engine speed.

In the VVTECU 41, the variable valve timing mechanism 23 is controlled on the basis of the target step number.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To always intend compatibility of improvement on fuel consumption with reduction of NOx without performing external reflux of exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:An inlet side variable valve timing mechanism (an inlet side VVT) 23 and an exhaust side VVT 26 are respectively provided on respective camshafts 21, 22 in the inlet side and the exhaust side, and open and close timings of an inlet valve 9 and an exhaust valve 10 are made variable. A VVTECU 41 uses drive timing of the inlet side VVT 23 preset so as to be the latest in close timing of the inlet valve 9 in respective load ranges among combinations of both drive timings of the inlet side VVT 23 and the exhaust side VVT 26 for obtaining the most suiable target exhaust gas residual ratio in a combustion chamber 6 in accordance with load change, based on throttle opening and engine revolution speed input from respective sensors 14, 32 through an engine ECU 40. It is possible thereby to keep residual exhaust gas ratio in the most suitable level without depending on load change of an engine 1, in addition, to reduce pumping loss over the whole range of partial load.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To ensure the property of an engine to be nicely loaded on a vehicle, and mount a variable valve timing device(VVT) easily. CONSTITUTION:Driving gears 19, 20 are provided on rear end sides of exhaust side cam shafts 7, 11 rotated in association with rotation of a crank shaft 2, and also driven gears 21, 22 are provided on rear end sides of intake side cam shafts 6, 10 so as to engage with the driving gears 19, 20. VVTs 23, 24 are incorporated in the driven gears 21, 22 integratedly. It is thus possible to avoid interference between a timing belt 18 provided on the front end side of an engine 1, and the VVTs 23, 24 provided on the rear end of the engne 1, so that the VVTs 23, 24, the timing belt 18, and the like are no more projected forward from the engine 1. Since a comparatively relaxing space is provided on the rear end side of the engine 1, mounting of the VVTs 23, 24 may be hardly disturbed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce useless oil consumption by preventing excessive lowering of an intake pressure at the time of totally-closing of a throttle, and suppressing oil rising which may caused by the intake pressure lowering. CONSTITUTION:A variable valve timing control device is provided with a variable valve timing mechanism which adjusts a closing timing of a intake valve 9, various kinds of sensors 31 to 34, and an electronic control device (ECU) 48 which controls the variable valve timing mechanism based on detection signals of the sensors 31 to 34. The ECU 48 is operated such that a closing timing is set according to the operation condition when a throttle valve 25 is not totally closed, and the closing timing is set to be slower than the timing according to the operation condition when the throttle valve 25 is totally closed. The ECU 48 advances the closing timing of an intake valve 9 once delayed, when the throttle valve 25 is totally closed and an intake pressure is lower than a preset value, such that the low intake pressure should be the preset value.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce shock of a speed change of a transmission over the whole ranges of an engine load preferably. CONSTITUTION:A variable valve timing device (VVT) is composed of a timing pulley assembly 23 and a step motor 24. An ignition plug 26 is provided at a combustion chamber 6. A delay angle control is performed for an opening timing of an intake valve 9 by the VVT to reduce an engine output torque in changing a speed by an automatic transmission 44 for a large load range of an engine 1. In the meanwhile, for a small load range, a delay angle control is performed for an ignition timing of an ignition pluge 26 to reduce the engine output torque in changing a speed of the automatic transmission 44. A speed changed shock by the transmission can thus be reduced over the whole ranges from the large load range to the small load range can thus be reduced without being followed by defects such as lack of an output torque change by a valve timing control only, or an increase of an exhaust temperature by an ignition timing control only.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To downsize the outer diameter and to provide the required brake torque to a drum gear and operate it by providing a braking means which is used to give brake torque to the drum gear outside the ring gear with a cam shaft as a center. CONSTITUTION:A ring gear 13 is interposed between a timing pulley 7 and a cam shaft 1, and the timing pulley 7 and the cam shaft 1 are connected. An annular magnet 27 as a braking means is contained peripherally inside a brake plate 25. This magnet 27 is arranged at the position outside the ring gear 13 with the cam shaft 1 as a center. This arrangement allows the outer diameter of the whole device with the cam shaft 1 as a center to be downsized, resulting in improvement of mountability of the device itself onto the engine. A relatively small braking force generated by the magnet 27 can give the drum gear 20 the brake torque to resist the rotational force of the ring gear 13, leading to reduction of the power losses.
