    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member and a method of manufacturing the same capable of not only attaining a state of vastly reduced friction but also allowing mass-production, and reducing its production cost. SOLUTION: By applying a high surface pressure between members 1, 2, a local solid contact occurs at a sliding interface and a microscopic abrasion generates at a sliding surface of a sliding member. In a lubricating film 11 of the sliding member 1, carbon molecules 12 are contained as a simple substance or an aggregate of the simple substance. The carbon molecules 12 are exposed from the lubricating film 11 by the microscopic abrasion and a part of them are separated from the place to be supplied to the sliding interface. Because such a carbon molecule 12 has a hollow structure capable of rolling and moving, it acts as a ball bearing of molecular level at the sliding interface.
