SOLUTION: The battery system A is such that a plurality of battery modules B, each constituting a plurality of unit batteries C that are stacked, are connected in series. Between positive pole terminals 11 and negative pole terminals 12 of the battery modules that constitute the battery system, a connection terminal (center tap) 21, which is different from the positive or negative pole terminal, is provided to extract a voltage smaller than the voltage between the positive and the negative pole terminals. In a battery with a heat-conducting plate and several individual cells that are combined into a cell combination, wherein with pole contacts of the individual cells electrically interconnected in parallel and/or in series. The cell compound and the heat-conducting plate are completely surrounded by a clamping element. A contact plate is arranged between the first individual cell and the clamping elements and at the face side between the last individual cell and the clamping elements.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery pack in which an electric current is rapidly cut off when a battery cell is exposed to high temperatures. SOLUTION: The battery pack is provided which is composed of the battery cell having a cell tab, a protection circuit module having the inner terminal adhered to the cell tab, a PTC element coupled with the inner terminal, and a heat transfer member adhered to the cell tab. Furthermore, the heat transfer member can be adhered to not only the cell tab but also the PTC element. In such a manner, heat generated in not only the battery cell but also the cell tab and the inner terminal is rapidly transferred to the PTC element through the heat transfer member, thereby the current is rapidly cut off when the battery cell is exposed to the high temperatures. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery module with a structure easily switchable between a draft structure and an enclosed structure in response to specifications of a system, and a high-performance cooling structure making use of respective characteristics be enabled regardless of which a cooling structure is selected, and to provide a railway vehicle. SOLUTION: A package of battery modules 1110, in which multiple battery cells 1111 are juxtaposed and housed, has openings 1112a formed on a pair of side panels of the package through which side walls of the battery cells 1111 are exposed. Further, either cooling ducts for letting ambient cooling air flow in and out or cover plates 1115 for sealing the package of the battery modules 1110 are selectively attached to the openings 1112a. The cover plates 1115 have heat absorbing blocks 1113 disposed on inner sides thereof for thermally coming into contact with the side walls of the battery cells 1111, and radiating fins 1114 disposed on outer sides thereof.
