Abstract:
The invention provides protective articles comprising a backing that comprises a fluorinated polymer and a curable adhesive on at least one layer of the backing. The protective articles of the invention may be used to provide substrates or articles of the invention having a fluorinated surface. The invention also provides methods of preparing such articles, methods of repairing appliqués, and methods of edge sealing appliqués.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monomer, oligomer and polymer of aromatic sulfonic acid or phosphonic acid (or these derivatives), wherein the monomer, oligomer and polymer are obtained by an aromatic nucleophilic substitution using a sulfur or phosphorus nucleophilic reagent.SOLUTION: The monomer, oligomer and polymer of unfluorinated, partially-fluorinated or perfluorinated (perfluoro) sulfonic acid are produced by a reaction of an oligomeric or polymeric arene, which is halogenated and has low molecular weight, with (hydrogen) sulfite, dithionite, sulfide or other reducing sulfur salt while using a suitable oxidizing agent by the sulfur oxidation degree of less than +6 as much as possible to oxidize a sulfur-containing arene intermediate formed together with the formation of corresponding sulfonic acid functional groups (the groups of a sulfonic acid, sulfohalogenide, sulfonamide and sulfonic acid ester).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective article that can be used for a coating surface and sealing of a surface edge of fluoropolymer applique, etc., adhered to a substrate using substantially all kinds of adhesives (for example, a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a thermosetting adhesive, and a hot-melt adhesive) or repair of the surface.SOLUTION: The protective article including a backing that includes a fluorinated polymer and a curable adhesive on at least one layer of the backing is provided. The protective article can be used for a substrate or to provide an article having a fluorinated surface. A method for manufacturing such an article, a method for repairing an applique, and a method for sealing the edge of the applique are also provided.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joining optical element for use in UV region having high light transmittance in UV region and good adhesion durability in the joining state of the optical element, where the adhesive can be cured in a short time under normal temperature. SOLUTION: This joining optical element for use in UV region is formed by joining optical elements 1 and 2 which transmit UV light through an adhesive layer 3. As the adhesive layer 3, a solution in which a solvent-soluble type organic fluoropolymer with no unsaturated bond in the molecule is dissolved in a fluorine-containing solvent having ≥150°C boiling point and no unsaturated bond in the molecule is used.
