    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device controlling an electronic injector and an electronic valve in an internal combustion engine and a method for actuating the same.
    SOLUTION: This invention relates a single device controlling the electronic injector 3 and the electronic valve 5 in the internal combustion engine including a first control circuit 2 for each electronic injector 3, a second control circuit 4 for each electronic valve 5 and a timing circuit 9 supplying timing signal to the first and the second control circuits 2, 4. In the second control circuit 4, switches 38, 39, 43, 45 selectively connect each electronic valve 5 to a first power source 8 under a predetermined operation condition and to a boost power source 11 composed of a capacitor 12 for accumulating energy under another predetermined operation condition. Consequently, part of electric energy accumulated in the operating electronic valve 5 is always transferred to the capacitor 12 to recharge the capacitor.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform fail safe control for maintaining satisfactory drivability by a normal variable valve system when any of variable valve systems causes failure in an internal combustion engine provided with the variable valve systems changing valve characteristics related to effective amount of opening per a plurality of cylinder groups.
    SOLUTION: Valve characteristics (operation angle, lift amount) by the variable valve systems in left and right banks of the V-type internal combustion engine are detected by operation angle sensors 115L, 115R, and failure on a left bank side and a right bank side is diagnosed (B4, B5). When lift amount of the valve characteristics in a failure condition is above a predetermined value while the variable valve system in the bank on one side causes failure, control by matching the valve characteristics by the variable valve system in the normal side bank with the valve characteristics in the failure condition is performed. When lift amount is less than the predetermined value, the valve characteristics on the normal side are the valve characteristics for increasing lift amount by compensation amount set in accordance with an engine operation condition for the valve characteristics in the failure condition (B6 to B10 → B2, B3).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuating mechanism which shortens the length of a shaft along a control shaft and a valve lift adjusting device using the actuating mechanism.
    SOLUTION: The control shaft 30 is connected to the support frame 41 of a transmission member 40 at the end on a side section and is connected to the lift adjusting means of the valve lift adjusting device at the end on the other side. The control shaft 30 transversely crosses the rotary shaft 24 of a motor 20. The transmission member 40 has the square box-like support frame 41 and a roller, which is turnably supported on the support frame 41 on the side opposite to the control shaft 30. A drive cam is contained in a support frame 41 and is turned together with a cam shaft 50. When the motor 20 is rotated, the torque of the motor 20 is transmitted to the cam shaft 50 and the drive cam through a motor gear 28 and a cam gear 54. When the drive cam is turned, the roller of the transmission member 40 slides on the drive cam. The control shaft 30 linearly reciprocates in the orthogonal direction to the rotary shaft 24 of the motor 20 together with the transmission member 40.
