    摘要: PURPOSE: To carry out the decoloring and purification of stevioside, easily, in an industrial scale, by treating the extract liquid of the leaves of Stevia with activated charcoal and activated clay in combination, thereby effectively removing the impurities such as pigments from the liquid.
    CONSTITUTION: The extract liquid obtained by the extraction of the sweetening substances (general name: stevioside) from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni, is mixed with a flocculant (e.g. common alum or polyaluminum chloride) to flocculate and remove the collidal impurities, and then treated with a non-polar resin (e.g. "Duolite " ES-861) to adsorb the sweetening substance to said non-polar resin. The adsorbed substance is eluted with an organic solvent (e.g. methanol, acetone, etc.), and the eluate is decolored and purified with activated charcoal and activated clay. Although activated charcoal can absorb the stevioside firmly in an aqueous solution, it hardly adsorbs in an organic solvent and nevertheless keeps the decoloring effect. The decoloring and purification effects of activated charcoal can be promoted by the combined use with activated clay.
