PURPOSE: To obtain a steel sheet useful as a canning material or the like excellent in a rust-preventing property and direct coatability, which can be used for both temper rolling and two-pass cold rolling, by coating said steel sheet with the proper amount of the oily composition consisting of specified substance permitted under FDA. CONSTITUTION: Among substances permitted as the components of an oily composition under FDA, 10W60wt% a proper one or more of petroleum wax, synthetic wax and lanoline regulated under Paragraph No. 178-3910 of FDA, 5W 40wt% a fatty acid under the same No., 5W30wt% triethanolamine under the same No. and 10W40wt% a mineral oil under the same No. are prepared. In addition, 1W20wt% polyethylene glycol monostearate as a nonionic surfactant or a nonionic surfactant regulated under Paragraph No. 178-3400 of FDA is properly added. An oily composition obtd. by mixing these substances with an aqueous medium and emulsifying them is applied onto a steel sheet by a proper means such as temper rolling or coating. PURPOSE:An oil composition for temper-rolling that contains a specific proportion of wax, which is approved by FDA, fatty acids, triethanolamine, mineral oil and nonionic surface active agents, thus being dispersible in an aqueous medium and showing high rusting resistance and good coating properties. CONSTITUTION:The objective oil composition is composed of (A) 10-60wt% of at least one selected from the group consisting of petroleum wax, synthetic wax, and lanolin, which are specified by FDA paragraphs No.178-3910, (B) 5- 40% of fatty acids, (C) 5-30% of triethanolamine and (D) 10-40% of mineral oil, additionally, (E) 1-20% of polyethylene glycol monostearate and/or a nonionic surfactant specified by FDA paragraph No.178-3400. The resultant composition is used after it is emulsified in water containing 0.1-10% of alcohols or glycols.

PURPOSE: To prevent the deformation, etc., of nozzles owing to the thermal stress thereof by changing the combustion rate of radiant tubes and changing at the same time the gas flow rate from the nozzle prior to the change of a strip thickness. CONSTITUTION: The fuel supply rate from the combustion burners of the radiant tubes 4 is decreased before the stage of changing conditions in the stage of decreasing a heating rate when the thickness of the strip 1 decreases. On the other hand, the supply of a high temp. gas to a pebble heater 11 is stopped and gaseous NH is supplied from the bottom of the heater 11. The gaseous NH is increased in temp. by contacting with pebbles 10 up to the max. temp. in a short period and such high-temp.l gas is supplied to a plenum chamber 2. The gas heater to the high temp. is supplied gradually by as much as the quantity corresponding to the quantity of heat deficient for heating. PURPOSE: To heat a strip in a manner as to adapt itself to the thickness change thereof by injecting a gas which is adjustable in temp. and flow rate to both or one side of the strip in a short period. CONSTITUTION: The strip 1 is heated only by the radiant tubes in the stage of stationary operation. The combustion rate of the radiant tube burners is increased when the thickness of the strip 1 increases. Gaseous HN is at the same time supplied from the bottom of a pebble heater 11 through a dust 13 and the gas heated to a high temp. is supplied to a plenum chamber 2. The gas is injected from gas jet nozzles 3 to both or one surface of the strip 1 so that the strip 1 attains the prescribed temp. in a short period. Part of the gaseous NH is bypassed when the thickness decreases. The mixing ratio of the gas in the heater 11 is then adjusted and the gas of low temp. is supplied for a short period. PURPOSE: To obtain a titled heating device for controlling quickly a heating temperature in accordance with a variation of a heat load quantity by constituting it so that a gas jet device is provided extending from an appropriate area of the rear part of a heating zone to a heating area, and a gas for controlling a plate temperature is jetted to a metallic strip. CONSTITUTION: In a heating zone 14 and a soaking zone 15 of a metallic strip continuous annealing furnace, a gas jet device consisting of many radiant tubes 19, and plenum chambers 21 being adjacent to said tubes is provided as a heating device for heating a metallic strip 11 which runs through the inside of said furnace. As for said gas jet device, its front end part becomes the front end of the rear area of said heating zone 14 corresponding to 20W30% of a heat load variation quantity, and on the other hand, its rear end part is provided extending over the last part of the heating area, or on the whole of the soaking zone 15. PURPOSE:To provide the titled multistep cluster rolling mill having the plate thickness controlling means which obtains the plate shape for the automatically and being made with providing a load cell for the detection of the load applied on each divided body part, roll crown controlling device and servo mechanism. CONSTITUTION:The roll profile of the divided backup roll (A) is set up so as to obtain the target plate shape after the start of rolling. At this moment the load acting on the roll A is detected by a load cell 26 which is provied at each load supporting member 19 and a transmitted to a motor angle arithmetic unit 27 as an electrical signal. The load acting on each roll A varies due to the disturbance of the rolling material having a thickness variation in the plate width direction entering the inside of the rolling mill, but the variation thereof is outputted as the present load value from the cell 26. The load value thereof is compared 27 with the load set value stored in advance and the result thereof is outputted to a motor revolution angle controlling device 29. The device 29 then starts a driving motor 24 and afterwards rotates the motor 24 by the prescribed angle by the output of the rotary angle detector 28 and the output of the unit 27, and the most suitable roll profile which can obtain the target plate shape even against the plate shaping disturbance.

PURPOSE:To subject the cut end faces of strips to be welded to butt welding over the entire length thereof in a sure state, by detecting the butt condition of the strips from the pressure during welding of the cut end faces and controlling automatically the contact pressure thereof according to the thickness of the strips. CONSTITUTION:The end of a preceding strip S1 moving in an arrow direction and the top of a succeeding strip S2 are clamped respectively with the upper and lower clamps 2a, 2b and 3a, 3b of clamping devices 2, 3 on a stationary side and a moving side. A cutter 1 is advanced into between the devices 2 and 3 and is stopped on the line, then the end parts of the strips S1, S2 are cut by the lower blade 6 and upper blade 5 of the device 7. The device 3 is advanced with a cylinder 11, and the device 3 is stopped apart at a certain spacing (e). A backing strip 35 is then moved upward to sandwich the cut end parts from the bottom side of the clamps 2a, 2b, whereafter the device 3 is again advanced. Stopper devices 14, 15 contact with stopper devices 12, 13 on a stationary side, and the pressure exerted on the device 2 on their contacting is detected 17, 18 respectively, and both values are compared, whereby whether the butt condition of the cut end faces in the transverse direction of the strips is adequate or inadequate is discriminated.

PURPOSE:To make easy the adjustment and confirmation of the position of a condenser lens and to improve workability, by storing the position data of said lens corresponding to welding conditions, selecting one welding condition, and controlling automatically the position setting of the condenser lens. CONSTITUTION:If the set position of a condenser lens 1 among the welding conditions of coil materials 6 to be joined is defined as VEF, a comparing and discriminating device 7 discriminates the difference between the same and the present position VBC of the lens 1. The lens 1 can be set correctly simply by moving the same so as to satisfy the conditions VEF=VBC. Setters 8- for welding conditions are provided in conformity with the number of the required conditions according to the kinds of the mateials 6, and the respective values of VBC are empirically determined. Said values are stored as a set voltage VEF in the respective setters 8. In the stage of welding work, one from these conditions is freely fetched according to the conditions of the materials 6 with a selection circuit 9, and the set position of the lens 1 is changed automatically.
