PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a purified GABA B receptor and a receptor protein and a nucleic acid encoding the protein, to provide a method for isolating other members of the GABA B receptor family using a DNA cloning method and a probe derived from the sequence provided in the specification, to provide a new member of the GABA B receptor family isolated by the method and to further provide the use of the GABA B receptor and receptor protein and a cell transformed with a gene encoding the GABA B receptor protein in identification and characterization of a compound modulating the activity of the GABA B receptor.
