PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil composition exerting minimum negative impact on exhaust gas after-treatment devices. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition comprises (A) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and (B) a minor amount of an oil-soluble zinc salt of a dithiophosphoric acid as an additive component. The dithiophosphoric acid is a reaction product of phosphorus pentasulphide with a mixture of at least one first alcohol of the formula ROH, wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbyl group having at least four carbon atoms or an alkaryl group, and at least one second alcohol which is an ester of a polyhydric alcohol. Lubricating oils useful as gear oils, circulating oils, compressor oils and in other applications characterized by and excellent balance of anti-wear and anti-rust characteristics are based on high quality base stocks including a major portion of a hydrocarbon base fluid such as a PAO with a secondary base stock component which is preferably a long chain alkylated aromatic, such as an alkylnaphthalene. A synergistic combination of additives comprising an adduct of a substituted triazole such as benzotriazole or a substituted benzotriazole, e.g. tolyltriazole (TTZ) with an amine phosphate and a trihydrocarbyl phosphate such as cresyl diphenylphosphate (CDP), confers the desired balance of anti-wear and anti-rust properties. In addition, the present oils typically include an anti-oxidant component and a rust inhibitor together with other optional additive components.

An antioxidant in high monounsaturated oils is described in order to prepare a composition having utility in hydraulic fluids. The composition comprises: (A) at least one animal, vegetable or synthetic triglyeride oil, (B) at least one alkyl phenol, and optionally (D) a metal deactivator. In another embodiment, the composition comprises the above (A) and (B) with (C) at least one aromatic amine, and optionally (D) as described above.

This invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a blend of a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, gear or transmission oil package and a top treatment which comprises at least one saturated fatty phosphate ester or salt, wherein the lubricating composition is free of saturated fatty phosphites. Tin another embodiment, the invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, at least one saturated fatty phosphate ester or salt, at least one polysulfide and at least one phosphorus antiwear or extreme pressure agent, wherein the lubricating composition is free of saturated fatty phosphites. The invention relates to additive combinations which when added to a lubricant can provide and improve frictional and, optionally, thermal stability properties. The additives include a phosphate ester or salt wherein the hydrocarbyl group of the phosphate is a fatty-saturated group. The top treatment may also include a substituted fatty imidazoline or reaction product of a fatty carboxylic acid and polyalkylene polyamine and/or a borated dispersant.

This invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, (A) at least one organic polysulfide comprising at least about 90% dihydrocarbyl trisulfide, from about 0.1% up to about 8% dihydrocarbyl disulfide, and less than about 5% dihydrocarbyl higher polysulfides, and (B) at least one overbased metal composition, at least one phosphorus or boron compound, or mixtures of two or more thereof. The invention also relates to concentrates and greases containing the above combination. The invention also relates to methods of making the organic polysulfide.
