PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor that has a surface layer containing a polymer of a composition containing a charge transport compound having a polymerizable functional group, and suppresses degeneration of the charge transport compound and the occurrence of image defects resulting from the degeneration even after repeated use.SOLUTION: An electrophotographic photoreceptor includes a support, a photosensitive layer that is formed on the support, and a surface layer that contains a polymer of a composition including a charge transport compound having a specific group (chain polymerizable functional group).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor that has an outermost surface layer excellent in mechanical strength, flexibility, and toughness.SOLUTION: An electrophotographic photoreceptor has an outermost surface layer (for example, a charge transport layer 3, and a protective layer 5) that comprises a cured film of a composition containing a compound having a chain polymerizable functional group and a charge transporting skeleton in the same molecule, and at least one chain transfer agent selected from a compound having four or more primary thiol groups and a compound having two or more secondary thiol groups.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having stable electric characteristics as well as preferable cleaning property and excellent durability for a long period of time by forming a crosslinking surface layer that has high wear resistance, preferable electric characteristics and smooth surface property, and to provide a method for manufacturing the photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor has at least a photosensitive layer and a surface layer on a conductive support and is characterized in that: the surface layer comprises at least a crosslinked surface layer by curing a monomer mixture of (A) radical polymerizable monomers having three or more functional groups and no charge transporting structure and (B) a radical polymerizable compound having a charge transporting structure; the surface roughness Ra of the crosslinked surface layer is 0.2 μm or less; and the peeling strength of the crosslinked surface layer is 0.2 N/mm or more measured by a SAICAS (surface and interfacial cutting analysis) method.
