PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce useful materials such as monosaccharide- containing material(s) from C1 compound(s) by culturing microorganism(s) that can assimilate C1 compounds such as methanol and produce/excrete monosaccharides using C1 compound(s) as carbon sources. SOLUTION: This process comprises efficient production of useful material(s) such as monosaccharide(s) and material(s) containing the same from C1 compound(s) by culturing a gram-negative bacterium strain 12S or a derivative thereof, strain R64 (FERM P-15803), belonging to the genus Methylobacillus that can assimilate C1 compounds such as methanol and produce/excrete monosaccharides such as glucose, having no ability to assimilate glucose or methane, and having high homologies to 16S rRNA partial sequences of M. methanolica and M. glycogenesis in the data base at 96.3 and 95.1%, respectively, using methanol that is a C1 compound as a carbon source.

摘要: PURPOSE:To obtain individual microbial cells and various useful substances, produced thereby and useful as a feed and other raw materials, by cultivating a Gram-positive microorganism belonging to the genus Mycobacterium and capable of assimilating methanol. CONSTITUTION:A novel Gram-positive microorganism, belonging to the genus Mycobacterium and capable of assimilating methanol and vigorously growing, e.g. Mycobacterium metanolica BT-84 (FERM-P No. 8823), is cultivated in a culture medium containing methanol as a carbon source under aerobic condition to separate the cultivated microbial cells from the culture fluid.
