A method for efficiently synthesizing 2-pyrrolidone from γ-amino butyric acid obtained using a microorganism. A system for producing γ-amino butyric acid from glutamic acid and/or a glutamate, then recovering the remaining unreacted glutamic acid and/or glutamate, producing γ-amino butyric acid from the recovered glutamic acid and/or a glutamate, and further synthesizing 2-pyrrolidone. A method and a system for synthesizing polyamide-4,N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, polyvinyl pyrrolidone from the obtained 2-pyrrolidone are provided.
