Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination unit capable of exhibiting a high level of constancy even at fluctuating operating temperatures and emitting white light and having especially high color reproducibility and high efficiency. SOLUTION: This illumination unit has the following features. Conversion take place with the aid of at least one kind of phosphor which is derived from a cation M and silicon nitride or a derivative of a nitride and emits light with a peak emission wavelength at 430-670 nm. The cation M is partially replaced by a dopant D, namely Eu 2+ or Ce 3+ . In this case, at least one kind of divalent metals Ba, Ca, Sr and/or at least one kind of the trivalent metals Lu, La, Gd and Y are used as the cation M. The phosphor is derived from the following kinds. Nitrides of the structures MSi 3 N 5 , M 2 Si 4 N 7 , M 4 Si 6 N 11 and M 9 Si 11 N 23 , oxynitrides of the structure M 16 Si 15 O 6 N 32 and sialons of the structures MSiAl 2 O 3 N 2 , M 13 Si 18 Al 12 O 18 N 36 , MSi 5 Al 5 ON 9 and M 3 Si 5 AlON 10 . Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the amount of light emission per unit area in a face light source generator, and at the same time, to achieve high lighting intensity and uniformity. SOLUTION: This surface light source generator can provide the face light source having high lighting intensity, uniformity, and a low dispersion angle. In the face light source generator, a light-emitting diode(LED) is used as a base. The light-emitting diode conforms to the industrial standard where a phosphor is stuffed. The shape of an LED element, such as hexagonal, quadrilateral, and triangular pillars is newly designed, and also a plurality of the same type of LEDs is stuffed, thus forming a face-type phosphor, where a number of LED elements are concentrated. At the upper section of the LED element, the condensing operation of a convex lens is used, and a light dispersion angle is controlled within 15 degrees. By a technique for stuffing the number of LED elements for concentration, the light emission intensity per unit area in the face light source generator can be increased, and at the same time, high lighting intensity and uniformity can be achieved.

SOLUTION: A moldable nesting frame 10 has a plurality of bus-bars 11 and flexible joints 15 for coupling bus-bar pairs. A plurality of LED lamps 17 are provided on the bus-bar 11. An LED lamp 17 is formed in an almost square shape, and a housing 16 is provided with a cover and a lens 18. A flexible joint 15 can be bent easily and can isolate the bus-bar pair in the x and y directions. When used as a tail lamp of a car, the light-emitting module 50 can be formed into a final shape by the automatic metal bending process, according to the installation place.
