Abstract:
A flight of steps, stairs and the like heated by means of a heating medium passing through a pipe located within the steps, stairs etc. The pipe is located totally within the confines of the step structure and extends in a tortuous path generally longitudinally of the flight of steps. The pipe is permanently pre-shaped so as to present interconnected, generally arcuate looped portions and can be made to conform to the step configuration substantially solely by twisting the pipe at selected regions along its length.
Abstract:
A pipe coupling arrangement in which one end of two pipes being connected together is adapted to be passed over the opposing end of the other pipe, and in which at least one circumferential, radially open groove is arranged in opposing sides of the pipes in coupled position, in which are provided pivotable locking means mounted on a spring ring and adapted to engage the opposing grooves in said pipe ends to prevent the pipes from being separated in a direction opposite to that in which they are coupled.
Abstract:
A device and method for recovering metal accompanying slag skimmed from the surface of a bath of molten metal are described. The device has the form of a trough provided with a perforated bottom member, which is intended to be located at substantially the same level as the surface of the molten metal in the furnace. When using the device, slag is charged thereto and heated to a temperature which is at least equal to the temperature of the metal being treated. Whereupon any metal in the slag melts and runs down through the perforated bottom member of the device in the molten metal bath. Residual components of the slag are then removed from the device.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for manufacturing elongate heat-exchanger blanks composed of a basic substrate profile having at least one length of corrugated metal foil strip mechanically bonded thereto. A basic elongate profile string is advanced at a predetermined speed along a fixed path and at least one strip corrugating device is arranged to produce a continuous length of corrugated strip and to feed the strip into the path of the basic profile via a number of corrugated strip cutting and feed means. These latter means operate cyclically to cut the strip at predetermined intervals and to join the cut lengths of strip to the basic profile string in spaced relationship at a frequency corresponding to the intervals.
Abstract:
There is provided a method of charging an electrolyte bath containing aluminum oxide for the manufacture of aluminum by smelt electrolysis, with fresh supplies of aluminum oxide as the electrolyte is depleted thereof. A pre-determined store of aluminum oxide is constantly maintained on the crust covering the bath. This crust is then partially broken by raising and lowering the anode at predetermined intervals during the electrolysis to permit the oxide resting on the crust to enter the bath, thereby to increase the aluminium oxide content of said bath.
Abstract:
A locking device for retractable vehicle safety belts for preventing extraction of the belt only at a change of direction or velocity of the vehicle above a predetermined level, including a tiltable member having a first position releasing the belt and a second position locking the belt, said tiltable member being in the locking position only when actuated by a force above a certain limit.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for producing highly effective heat exchanger elements of the type which comprise corrugated surface enlarging members of strip material fixed to thin-walled substrates. The strip material, which can be either precorrugated or corrugated synchronously with the heat-exchanger element manufacturing process and which has a thickness of from 50-10 Mu m, is advanced concurrently with a substrate material to a station at which the strip is lightly held in firm abutment with the substrate material by means of an impringing stream of gaseous medium and simultaneously metallurgically bonded to the substrate. The composite product is then cut into lengths to form finished heat exchanger elements.
Abstract:
A device and method for metering molten metal to consumer stations are described. The device comprises a ladling device which is arranged to pass into a bath of molten metal present in a container intended therefore, through an opening disposed in the container walls. The ladle is arranged to fit snugly in the opening so as to shield the surface of the melt from the undesirable effect of the ambient atmosphere.
Abstract:
A device in a melting or holding furnace for facilitating the charging of the furnace, said device comprising an upwardly directed charging duct ouside of the furnace and in communication with the frunace at the lower portion thereof, the charging duct at its upper end being provided with a device for stirring of the molten material in the charging duct.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the continuous production of a twisted stranded wire by flattening a strand of wire, shearing it into a plurality of strands, and twisting the strands together.
