摘要： Each wireless communication apparatus forming a wireless network has an operation mode in which a wireless communication apparatus becomes a control station with priority, an operation mode in which a wireless communication apparatus may operate as a control station, and an operation mode in which a wireless communication apparatus does not become a control station. By providing a function in which a user selects and sets one of these three operation modes, the wireless network can be constructed as desired by the user. As a result of providing the mode in which the wireless communication apparatus does not become a control station, a wireless communication apparatus that is connected to a device but that cannot operate as a control station is not specified as a control station. Therefore, by allowing a specific apparatus in the wireless network to function as a control station, the wireless network can be constructed.

摘要： A method for secure and prompt distribution of critical operational information to a wireless cellular or PCS subscriber station via wireless interface which includes the steps of generating operational information, storing the operational information into a first memory of a wireless base station, and transmitting at least a portion of the operational information stored in the first memory to a wireless subscriber station via a wireless interface at random times during an active conversation state of the wireless subscriber station. The operational information stored in a second memory register in the subscriber station is updated with the operational information transmitted from the first memory. Where at least a portion of new operational information is received by the subscriber station, a first update counter is incremented to reflect the number of operational information updates received by the subscriber station. The value of the contents of the first update counter is then reported to the wireless base station via a wireless interface. Where the value of the contents of the first update counter is different from the value of the contents of a second update counter in the base station, the base station will synchronize the second counter to be the same as the first counter, and will re-transmit a portion of the operational information.

摘要： Tone generating apparatus for a cellular telephone simulates those tones normally sensed by a user of a conventional land-line telephone. The cellular telephone is adapted to communicate with a base station via a service provider which provides different types of service, such as HOME service, ROAM service, or alternate HOME service. A progress tone generator is actuable to generate for the user selected dial tone indications as a function of the detected type of service provided by the service provider. In addition, when the keypad of the cellular telephone is operated, digit tones identifying the actuation of the respective keys are generated as is digit data which represents those keys; the digit data being transmitted to the base station to dial a respective telephone number. A warning indication, such as a distinctive tone, is generated in the event that the digit data does not represent a valid telephone number.

摘要： There is provided a portable packet switched wireless voice messaging device capable of transmitting and receiving a digital voice signal. The device includes a microphone for inputting a voice message, an encoder for encoding the voice message, a memory for storing the encoded message, a data compressor with variable compression ratio for compressing the encoded message in accordance with a data compression mode selected by the user and a transmitting circuit for transmitting the compressed data with information indicating the mode selected. The device also includes a receiving circuit for receiving an incoming message data which has been compressed in a transmitting side, a detector for detecting the compression mode used in the transmitting side, a data decompressor for decompressing the incoming message data in accordance with the detected mode, a memory for storing the decompressed data, a decoder for decoding the decompressed data and a speaker for reproducing a voice message in accordance with the decoded voice message signal provided by the decoder. The user can select a data compression mode depending upon the importance of his voice message to be transmitted.

摘要： A system and method of displaying incoming pager messages on a receiver using infrared signals. The paging device includes a receiver for receiving paging signals including paged information. The output signal from the receiver is supplied to a baseband processor where it is converted into a digital signal, under the control of a processor. If the thus digitized signal is determined to be the selecting signal for the particular paging receiver, the digital signal is then preferably sent directly to a protocol translator, where it is converted into a signal having an infrared protocol. After processing in the protocol translator, the signal is then sent to a transmitter and transmitted as an infrared signal. The infrared signal is then received in a light-receiving element in a receiver where it is thereafter decoded by a protocol decoder in accordance with instructions contained in a memory connected thereto to retrieve the paging signal or paged message. The receiver has a display for displaying the decoded information and preferably has an indicator for confirming receipt of the infrared signals in the receiver.
