摘要： A voice scratchpad implemented in a wireless telephone allows the user to record important information gathered during a phone conversation. The wireless telephone includes signal processing means and memory means for recording at least one message or memo which is spoken over the telephone. The telephone also includes controls for initiating the recording of such a memo and for retrieving and replaying the memo. Indexing may be included which allows the system to record and replay a plurality of memos. The user of the phone can thus record important information in a memo on the voice scratchpad without the need for paper or the concentration and effort required for writing.

摘要： A two-way voice messaging terminal for communicating with a receiving terminal which may or may not be capable of reproducing a voice message transmitted from the voice messaging terminal. A voice message is digitally encoded and stored in a memory. A receiving terminal selection unit connected to the first memory preferably allows for the selection of the receiving terminal(s) to which the voice message is to be transmitted. The receiving terminal selection unit then receives the stored, digitally encoded voice message and determines whether the selected receiving terminal(s) is(are) capable of reproducing the voice message. If the receiving terminal(s) can reproduce the voice message, the voice message is transmitted to the selected receiving terminal(s). If the terminal(s) is(are) not capable of reproducing the voice message, the voice message is converted into a text message in a speech-to-text converter in the voice messaging terminal and then transmitted to the selected receiving terminal(s). The voice messaging terminal may also have a text-to-speech converter to convert a response text message into a synthesized voice message, the response text message being sent from the selected receiving terminal(s) in response to the voice message transmitted by the voice messaging terminal.

摘要： A system and method of transmitting customized voice messages from a first voice messaging device to a second voice messaging device over a messaging network. A customized voice message is initially transmitted from a first voice messaging device to a second voice messaging device over the messaging network, including a first base station. The first base station assigns a unique code for that customized voice message, and then transmits that customized voice message and unique code over the messaging network to the second voice messaging device, the latter of which stores the customized voice message and the unique code associated with it. The first base station also stores the unique code in memory. Upon subsequent transmission of that same customized voice message from the first voice messaging device to the second voice messaging device, only the unique code will be transmitted to the second voice messaging device, the latter of which will then retrieve from its memory the customized voice message associated with the unique code.

The radiofrequency transceiver in the telephone handset and remote controller apparatus receives radiofrequency communication signals from an associated base station, and if the messaging device is bidirectional, also receives messaging signals from the messaging device. The telephone handset and remote controller apparatus may also have a data connector so that it may be connected to a computer in order to receive downloaded information such as software updates and the like and transmit such information to the messaging device.

The transmitter broadcasts a notification signal in response to a primary communications device alert. The notification signal is a phase modulated, radio frequency signal. A remote alarm indicator provides remote notification of the primary communications device alert. The remote alarm indicator includes a radio frequency receiver for receiving the notification signal, an alarm indicator, a decoder, a battery, and a switch. The decoder provides a signal to the alarm indicator corresponding to whether the notification signal has been received by the radio frequency receiver. The switch is coupled to permit deactivation of the alarm indicator. The battery provides power to the radio frequency receiver, the alarm indicator, and the decoder.
