    Abstract: Organic light emitting devices having a low-index electrode and a substrate with a surface treatment are provided. The combination of a relatively low-index electrode and a surface-treated substrate may eliminate guided modes and increase the light outcoupled by the device. It has been found that the combination surprisingly provides up to 1.5 times more outcoupled light than would be expected based on the performance of similar devices having higher-index electrodes.

    Abstract: A device is provided. The device includes a first organic light emitting device, which further comprises a first electrode, a second electrode, and an organic emissive layer disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The device also includes a first laser device, which further comprises an optical cavity and an organic lasing material disposed within the optical cavity. A focus mechanism is disposed to focus light emitted by the first organic light emitting device onto the first laser device. Preferably, the focus mechanism provides light incident on the first laser device at least 10 times greater, and more preferably at least 100 times greater, in intensity than the light emitted by the first organic light emitting device.

When an electric field is applied across the layer, the excited states may dissociate into geminate polaron pairs within the organic layer. The dissociated states may change back to excitons when the electric field is rapidly reduced or removed. The organic light emitting layer may be optically pumped by an adjacent OLED, allowing for an electrically-driven device.

An organic light emitting device, is provided, having an anode, a cathode, and an emissive layer disposed between the anode and the cathode. The emissive layer includes a host and a phosphorescent emissive dopant having a peak emissive wavelength less than 500 nm, and a radiative phosphorescent lifetime less than 1 microsecond.
