Abstract: Ion sensing device includes a field-effect transistor including a bottom gate and a top gate, a reference electrode, and a driver circuit configured to measure concentration of ions in a sample solution into which the reference electrode and the top gate are immersed. The driver circuit includes a constant current source configured to supply a drain of the field-effect transistor with a constant current, and a voltage follower configured to receive a potential of the drain. The driver circuit is configured to supply the reference electrode with a constant reference potential, apply a constant voltage across an output of the voltage follower and the bottom gate, and output an output potential of the voltage follower.

Abstract: A degree of polarization of second reference samples produced by adding an antibody, a tracer, and a target substance having mutually different concentrations to a first reference sample not including the target substance is corrected with a degree of polarization of the first reference sample to generate a first calibration curve. A degree of polarization of a second sample to be measured produced by adding the antibody and the tracer to a first sample to be measured in amounts equal to those added to the second reference samples is corrected with a degree of polarization of the first sample to be measured to obtain the concentration of the target substance in the first calibration curve.

Abstract: Thermoelectric conversion cells of a thermoelectric conversion element include a thermoelectric conversion layer formed on a main surface of a substrate, an insulating layer covering the thermoelectric conversion layer, a first electrode including a first layer and a second layer, and a second electrode. The first layer connects to the main surface of the thermoelectric conversion layer via a first contact hole, and the second layer covers the first layer. The second electrode connects to the main surface of the thermoelectric conversion layer via a second contact hole. The second layer and the second electrode, and the first layer are formed from materials having different work functions. In thermoelectric conversion cells that are adjacent to each other, the second layer of one of the thermoelectric conversion cells and the second electrode of the other of the thermoelectric conversion cells are formed integrally, and the thermoelectric conversion cells are connected in series.

Abstract: A light beam direction control element includes a light beam direction controller and a controller. The light beam direction controller includes light transmitting regions sandwiched between a first light transmissive substrate and a second light transmissive substrate, light absorbing regions located between light transmitting regions, a light transmissive dispersion medium sealingly contained in the light absorbing regions, and electrophoretic particles dispersed in the light transmissive dispersion medium. The controller, by controlling voltage applied to the electrophoretic particles from a first light transmissive electrode on the first light transmissive substrate and second light transmissive electrodes and third light transmissive electrodes on the second light transmissive substrate, causes the electrophoretic particles to localize to the second light transmissive substrate side and also causes the electrophoretic particles to flow between a space over each of the second light transmissive electrodes and a space over an adjacent one of the third light transmissive electrode.

Abstract: A gas sensing element that reflects light incoming along an optical path on a sensing face, where the light reflected by the gas sensing element changes depending on a quantity of a specific gas that is in contact with the gas sensing element, and where each of a first optical fiber and a second optical fiber bends the optical path. The gas sensing element, a light source, a photodetector, and a magnetic field applicator are disposed on a same side with respect to a virtual plane that is perpendicular to an incident plane of the incoming light to the sensing face of the gas sensing element and includes a point on the optical path where light goes out from the first optical fiber and a point on the optical path where light enters the second optical fiber.
