    摘要: Apparatus for delivering a heavy cable such as a rescue cable from the oc's surface to an extended depth for attachment to an object such as a stranded submarine and, after attachment of the free end of the cable to the object, delivering the cable to the ocean's surface. A syntactic foam float provides positive buoyancy for a frame assembly which supports a cable reel holding the heavy cable. Releasable ballasts are included to provide an initial overall buoyancy of a small negative value during the descent of the appartus. A release system is provided to simultaneously release the releasable ballast to change the buoyancy of the apparatus to a positive value, release the cable reel to allow cable payout. The cable reel is coupled to a waterbrake system which limits the rate of cable payout to below the rate of ascent of the rescue cable reel. The waterbrake system includes a depth-activated clutch which engages a secondary waterbrake to slow the rate of cable payout near the ocean surface.

    摘要: The invention is a device for splicing submarine coaxial cable underwater the seafloor with a simple push-on operation to restore and maintain electrical and mechanical strength integrity; the splice device is mateable directly with the severed ends of a coaxial cable to be repaired. Splicing assemblies comprise a dielectric pressure compensating fluid filled guide cavity, a gelled castor oil cap and wiping seals for exclusion of seawater, electrical contacts, a cable strength restoration mechanism, and a pressure compensation system for controlled extrusion of and depletion loss prevention of dielectric seal fluid during cable splicing. A splice is made underwater by directly inserting prepared ends of coaxial cable, having no connector attachments, into splicing assemblies.

    摘要: A fastener assembly for securing structures to the seafloor including a st of circular cross-section having a frusto-conically shaped head on a leading end for insertion into a prepared borehole and a mandril section at the other end having annular grooves around its perimeter. An expansible sleeve is disposed around the shaft in interference fit with the borehole so that when the shaft is pulled upward, the head will force the expansible member to expand against the sides of the borehole. The shaft is disposed with the grooved section extending through an aperture in a workpiece and a malleable collar is positioned around the shaft resting on the workpiece. A conventional blind riveting installation tool may be used to pull the shaft upward to engage the expansible sleeve in the borehole and to swage the malleable collar to the grooved shaft against the workpiece.

    摘要: A pin release assembly in which a release pin and a pull pin have mating tions which interlock within a fixed collar. The interlocking surfaces of the mating portions are oriented parallel to or normal to the longitudinal axis of the pins so that no frictional side loads are produced when the interlocked pins are pulled in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis. The release is actuated by sliding the interlocked pins within the collar. The length of travel of the release pin necessary to accomplish the desired release is coordinated with the length of travel of the mating portions within the collar so that the interlocking surfaces are pulled from the confinement of the collar at the same time as the release is accomplished, thereby permitting the pull pin and the release pin to freely separate.
