摘要: Crandell feline kidney cells infected with a Rickard isolate of FeLV, i.e., FeLV-A.sub.R1, are provided, the infected cells being capable of producing viral materials in amounts sufficient for formulating FeLV vaccines. Processes for producing viral material and FeLV vaccines utilizing the viral material thus prepared also are provided.

摘要: A vaccine composition for animals susceptible to infection by canine distemper virus. The vaccine comprises a small but immunologically effective amount of an inactivated canine distemper virus in combination with a non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable immunologic adjuvant. A preferred method of inactivation of canine distemper virus by either exposure of the virus to an inactivating effective amount of binary ethyleneimine or alternatively exposure of the virus to long wavelength ultraviolet light in the presence of a furocoumarin.

摘要: The invention is a novel cell freezing and storage bag assembly and method for using the assembly in the seed train expansion of mammalian cells. The bag is constructed principally of polytetrafluoroethylene fabric. The bag is designed to hold enough cells that a bioreactor can be inoculated directly. The bag is designed to be filled to a fraction of its maximum capacity so that the cell suspension has a very thin cross-section (less than about 10 millimeters). The bag design includes a transfer set that can be sterilely welded to the source of the mammalian cells. This sterile-weldable transfer set allows the bags to be filled quickly with minimal risk of contamination. In the method, once each bag is filled, it is sealed below the connection with the transfer set and the bag is cut “above” the new seal (on the same side of the seal as the transfer set). When a bioreactor is to be inoculated, the contents of the bag are drained via a sterile-weldable inoculation line. During freezing and storage, the inoculation line is protected from mechanical damage.

摘要: A multivalent FeLV-infected feline vaccine composed of (1) a small but immunologically effective amount of inactivated feline leukemia virus; (2) a small but effective amount of an inactivated virus selected from the group consisting of Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus, Feline Calici Virus and Feline Panleukopenia Virus; and (3) a pharmaceutically acceptable immunologica adjuvant. Components (1) and (2) may be inactivated by any of the known techniques. The inactivated feline leukemia virus must be from subgroup A and is the Rickard isolate of the virus designated FeLV-A.sub.R1. This combination vaccine is effective in preventing Viremia, leukemia-associated syndromes, and deaths in cats caused by Feline Leukemia Virus, Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus, Feline Calici Virus and Feline Panleukemia Virus infections.
