    Abstract: Approaches are described for selectively managing imaging elements on a computing device. A portable computing device can include a camera module that can manage the capture and/or processing of image data. The module can include a first imaging element attached to a first surface of a substrate and a second imaging element attached to a second surface of the substrate, the first surface being opposite the second surface. The image module can also include an image signal processor (ISP) or other dedicated imaging processing circuitry attached to or otherwise in connection with the substrate. The circuitry can be shared between the imaging elements, and can be configured to receive a selection of one of the imaging elements and process (e.g., depth pixel correction, etc.) captured image data based on the selected imaging element.

    Abstract: In some examples, a device presents a plurality of icons of items, such as applications, content items, etc., in a user interface. When determining how to present the icons, the device may refer to an access history that identifies which items of a plurality of items have been accessed on the device. One or more of the icons may be presented in a designated area of the interface based at least in part on a frequency with which the items corresponding to the one or more icons have been accessed on the device. In addition, the one or more icons may be selected for presentation in the designated area based at least in part on a current context of the device, which may include at least one of a current time, a current location of the device, or a current activity of a user of the device.

    Abstract: A computing device having multiple sensors can operate in different modes, wherein each mode causes data captured by different sensors to be transmitted to a processing component for analysis. In one example, a computing device includes one or more pairs of image sensors. Each pair can be configured such that the transmit lines of the sensors are selectively connected to a host processor or other such component. When in a normal operational mode, the switch can be configured to cause data captured by a first image sensor to be transmitted to a receive input of the host processor. When image data from a second image sensor is to be analyzed, the switch can be adjusted such that the device operates in a bypass mode, such that only data from the second image sensor is received and analyzed by the host processor.

    Abstract: Context data can be used to determine the current context and/or to predict the future context of a user. When the disclosed technology knows of the user's likely context, it can prepare for object recognition (e.g., image recognition, speech recognition, etc.) by (downloading and) locally storing (i.e., holding) object data related to the context. This allows for the object recognition to be performed locally and for any additional information about the object to be provided without communication over a network, thereby reducing resources such as time, cost, and processing power. If, however, the object data related to the context is not available locally, such object data can still be downloaded from a server/cloud. In some embodiments, if a likely future context is predicted and the object data related to that future context is not available locally, the object data can be downloaded from a server/cloud prior to the future context.

    Abstract: A modular controller may be mounted in an opening, such as a standard single wide or double wide electrical junction box, in a wall or other surface. The modular controller may include a power module and a front module. The power module may be mounted in the opening of the surface, and may be configured to provide electrical power to the front module. The front module may be detachably coupleable to the power module. The front module may be configured to receive audio commands, gesture commands, and/or presence input corresponding to a desired action, and may cause the action to be performed by a device of the front module and/or an external device. The front module may include various devices (e.g., components) capable of providing various functionalities, and may be selected for coupling to a power module in a particular location based at least in part on the functionalities.
