Abstract:
A capacitor comprising a solid electrolytic capacitor element that contains a sintered porous anode body, a dielectric that overlies the anode body, and a solid electrolyte that overlies the dielectric. The capacitor further contains a barrier film that is formed by vapor deposition and that is positioned between the dielectric and the solid electrolyte or overlies the dielectric.

A capacitor comprising a solid electrolytic capacitor element that contains a sintered porous anode body, a dielectric film that is formed by sequential vapor deposition and overlies the anode body, and a solid electrolyte that overlies the dielectric film is provided. A method for forming a solid electrolytic capacitor element is also provided.

A wet electrolytic capacitor is provided. The capacitor comprises an anode that comprises an anodically oxidized pellet formed from a pressed and sintered valve metal powder, a cathode that comprises a metal substrate coated with a conductive coating, a microporous membrane that is positioned between the anode and cathode and contains an olefin polymer having a weight-average molecular weight of about 1,000,000 grams per mole or more, and a fluidic working electrolyte in communication with the anode and the cathode.
Abstract:
A wet electrolytic capacitor that contains a casing within which is positioned an anode formed from an anodically oxidized sintered porous body and a fluidic working electrolyte is provided. The casing contains a conductive coating disposed on a surface of a metal substrate. The casing contains a metal substrate coated with a conductive coating. The conductive coating contains a conductive polymer layer formed through anodic electrochemical polymerization (“electro-polymerization”) of a colloidal suspension on the surface of the metal substrate. The conductive coating also contains a precoat layer that is discontinuous in nature and contains a plurality of discrete projections of a conductive material that are deposited over the surface of the metal substrate in a spaced-apart fashion so that they form “island-like” structures.

A capacitor comprising a solid electrolytic capacitor element that a sintered porous anode body, a dielectric that overlies the anode body, and a solid electrolyte is provided. The solid electrolyte contains an interior conductive polymer film that overlies the dielectric, which may be formed by sequential vapor deposition. An exterior conductive polymer layer also overlies the interior conductive polymer film.
Abstract:
An anode for use in a high voltage electrolytic capacitor is provided. The anode contains a sintered porous pellet and a leadwire extending therefrom in a longitudinal direction. The pellet is multi-layered to the extent that it contains at least a first layer positioned adjacent to a second layer, both of which extend along the length of the anode. The anode leadwire is embedded within the first layer. For this reason, the first layer has a thickness greater than that of the leadwire. Nevertheless, the use of a separate and distinct second layer adjacent to the first layer can allow each of the layers to be independently pressed using a multi-sided compaction device so that the properties of the anode are not significantly impacted by the presence of the relatively large anode leadwire.

A wet electrolytic capacitor is provided. The capacitor contains an anode comprising an anodically oxidized pellet formed from a pressed and sintered powder, a cathode that contains a metal substrate coated with a conductive polymer, and a working electrolyte in communication with the anode and the cathode. The working electrolyte is in the form of a gel and comprises an ammonium salt of an organic acid, inorganic oxide particles, an acid, and a solvent system that comprises water. The working electrolyte has a pH value of from about 5.0 to about 8.0.

A wet electrolytic capacitor that contains electrodes (i.e., anode and cathode) and a working electrolyte is provided. The anode and optionally the cathode include a wire assembly containing two or more individual wires. A particulate material is also disposed in contact with at least a portion of the wire assembly.
