Abstract:
A relief or other valve with a soft seal for sealing at high pressures. The seal is independently movable and at least partially pressure balanced for protection against seal damage and deformation. A hard seat is provided for engagement by a hard valve wherein a lost motion connection is provided between the seal and hard valve.
Abstract:
A pigment contains one or more substantially spherical-shaped beads. Each substantially spherical-shaped bead includes one or more high aspect ratio particles encapsulated within an encapsulating material. Resinous compositions containing this pigment and a plastic, for example a polycarbonate, have a flowline-free colored, sparkling and/or metallescent appearance.
Abstract:
A method of preparing block copolyestercarbonates wherein at least one dihydroxy-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon moiety and at least one aromatic diacid chloride are reacted under interfacial conditions to give a hydroxy-terminated polyester intermediate. The dihydroxy-substituted aromatic compound is used in about 10 mole to about 125 mole percent excess relative to the diacid chloride. Enhanced control of hydroxy-terminated polyester intermediate molecular weight is achieved by limiting the amount of water present to provide a final salt level of greater than 30 percent. The final salt level is a theoretical value but is readily calculable. The hydroxy-terminated polyester intermediate is then converted to a block copolyestercarbonate by reaction with a carbonate precursor such as phosgene.
Abstract:
An embodiment of a method of encapsulation of a material comprises dispersing high aspect ratio particles in a monomer and/or a polymer to form a suspension mixture, adding the suspension mixture to an aqueous mixture to form an aqueous reaction mixture, heating and mixing the aqueous reaction mixture to encourage the formation of substantially spherical-shaped beads, quenching the aqueous reaction mixture after the substantially spherical-shaped beads are formed, and collecting the substantially spherical-shaped beads.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a polymer composition comprising a transparent polymer blend. The polymer blend comprises a first resin and a second resin. The first resin comprises polyarylate structural units of formula I, wherein R1 is independently at each occurrence a C1-C12 alkyl group, or a halogen atom, and p is 0 to 3. The second resin is selected from the group consisting of polycarbonates, polyarylates and copolyestercarbonates. The first resin and the second resin are further characterized by a difference in polyarylate structural unit conte
Abstract:
A composition comprising components A, B and optionally C, wherein component A comprises at least one carboxy-terminated polyarylate or an otherwise functionalized polyarylate. Component B is an organic species which can react with the reactive endgroups of component A, and component C is a catalyst or mixture of catalysts. The carboxy-terminated and functionalized polyarylates may be prepared by a solution polymerization method wherein a stoichiometric excess of a diacid chloride is reacted with a dihydroxy-substituted aromatic compound (e.g. resorcinol) in the presence of an organic base to provide an intermediate chlorocarbonyl group-substituted polyarylate which chlorocarbonyl groups may be elaborated to a variety of reactive endgroups including carboxy groups and epoxy groups.
Abstract:
A coating composition comprising components A, B and optionally C, wherein component A comprises at least one hydroxy-terminated polyarylate. Component B is an organic species which can react with the hydroxy terminal groups of component A, and component C is a catalyst or mixture of catalysts. The hydroxy-terminated polyarylates are prepared by a solution polymerization method.
Abstract:
A coating composition comprising components A, B and optionally C, wherein component A comprises at least one carboxy-terminated polyarylate. Component B is an organic species which can react with the terminal carboxy groups of component A, and component C is a catalyst or mixture of catalysts. The carboxy-terminated polyarylates are prepared by a solution polymerization method wherein a stoichiometric excess of a diacid chloride is reacted with a dihydroxy-substituted aromatic compound (e.g. resorcinol) in the presence of an organic base and a limited amount of water to produce an initially formed polyarylate comprising anhydride linkages. The initially formed polyarylate is then subjected to selective hydrolysis of the anhydride linkages to provide a low molecular weight carboxy-terminated polyarylate.
Abstract:
A valve is operated between open and closed positions by respective solenoids. The valve is latched in each of the open and closed positions by a snap disc mounted in a position fixed relative to the plunger, and a pair of shoulders fixed relative to the valve body.
