Abstract:
Triglyceride oils having unsaturated fatty acid substituents are modified to convert sites of unsaturation to C-2 to C-10 diesters. The resulting derivatives are characterized by thermal and oxidative stability, have low temperature performance properties and are environmentally-friendly. They have utility as hydraulic fluids, lubricants, metal working fluids and other industrial fluids. The triglyceride oils are most easily prepared via epoxidized vegetable oils which are converted to the diesters in either a one- or two-step reaction.
Abstract:
Method of Using an Anti-Stick Coating to Reduce Dirt Accumulation The present disclosure is directed to a method of reducing dirt buildup on a machine surface. The method involves applying a sacrificial layer of an oil-based liquid on the surface and allowing dirt accumulation on the surface. The accumulated dirt along with the oil-based liquid is then removed.
Abstract:
A self-lubricating coating is disclosed. The coating includes a base material. The coating also includes a nanoparticle of a first material and a shell substantially surrounding the nanoparticle and including a second material different than the first material.

Abstract:
A method of making a nanoparticulate based lubricant is disclosed. The method includes providing solid lubricant material with particles having a size less than or equal to about 500 nanometers, and treating the particles to create composite nanoparticles. The composite nanoparticles includes the solid lubricant material and at least a second material.

Abstract:
A novel class of chemically-modified vegetable oils is prepared by reacting epoxidized triglyceride oils with thiols. The resultant poly(hydroxy thioether) derivatives have utility as antiwear/antifriction additives for environmentally-friendly industrial oils and automotive applications.
Abstract:
An aspect of the present disclosure is directed to a system for removing particulate matter from an exhaust stream. The system may include an ionization device configured to ionize particles of an exhaust stream. The system may further include an electromagnetic field generating device configured to deflect the ionized particles onto an inner-surface of an exhaust passageway, the inner-surface of the exhaust passageway being coated with a substance for lowering activation energy for a reaction of the ionized particles. The system may further include a regeneration means configured to remove particles from the exhaust passageway.
