DIMENSIONALLY STABLE AND SHAPE-RETAINING GARMENTS FROM CELLULOSIC FABRICS ARE PREPARED BY THE STEPS OF IMPREGNATING THE FABRIC WITH TWO DIFFERENT POLY-N-METHYLOL COMPOUNDS, CURING ONE OF THE POLY-METHYLOL COMPOUNDS, MAKING THE GARMENTS, AND THEN CURING THE OTHER POLY-N-METHYLOL COMPOUND.

Cellulosic textiles are rendered crease resistant with an impregnant formed by reaction of urea and formaldehyde at first in an acid medium and then with the addition of further urea and also glyoxal in a substantially neutral medium.

Process for the manufacture of liquid crease-resistant finishing agents for cellulosic textile materials, the agents being based on urea and formaldehyde, from which they are obtained by condensation in two steps at specific pH values and in specific molar ratios. The agents have a long shelf life.
