The antistatic composition for application to flat fibrous articles such as textiles, carpets, fabrics and the like which comprises a salt of a polymeric acid with an amine of the general formula ##STR1## wherein A=H, --OR.sub.2, ##STR2## R.sub.1 =H, a lower alkyl radical, a hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, polyalkylene imine or polyalkylene glycol ether radical;R.sub.2 =H, a lower alkyl radical, a hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, polyalkylene imine or polyalkylene glycol ether radical;R.sub.3 =H, a lower alkyl radical, a hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, polyalkylene imine or polyalkylene glycol ether radical;R.sub.4 =H, a lower alkyl radical, a hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, polyalkylene imine or polyalkylene glycol ether radical;X=a bivalent alkylene radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms;B=H, a lower alkyl radical, a hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, polyalkylene glycol ether or polyalkylene imine radical;n=small integers from 1 to 6, wherein when n=1 the grouping ##STR3## may stand for a bivalent 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic radical having one or more hetero atoms; a process for rendering a normally flat fibrous substance antistatic which comprises applying thereto such an antistatic composition including fibrous articles containing as a component of a coating thereof the novel antistatic agent.

Cotton and other fibrous material is impregnated with ethylenimine prepolymer prepared by reacting ethylenimine and certain di- and polyfunctional alkyl or aryl halide to produce an insoluble in situ formed network polymer which is physically bound in the structure of the substrate used. This new material is an excellent scavenger of heavy metals in water. This material can be prepared to be simultaneously low in ion-exchange capacity while being high in capacity for complexing with heavy metals.

THIS INVENTION DESCRIBES NOVEL WATER-SOLUBLE NITROGENCONTAINING PHOSPHONATES AND THE METHODS FOR THEIR PREPARATION. THE PHOSPHONATES ARE PREPARED BY REACTING HALOGENATED PHOSPHONATES WITH NITROGEN COMPOUNDS WHEREBY SOME OF THE HALOGEN ATOMS ARE REPLACED WITH NITROGENCONTAINING GROUPS. THE HALOGENATED PHOSPHONATES MAY ALSO BE MODIFIED BY REACTION WITH TRIALKYL PHOSPHITES BEFORE SUBSEQUENT REACTION WITH APPROPRIATE NITROGEN-CONTAINING COMPOUNDS.

Imine-terminated polymers having polyalkylene ether moieties with a molecular weight between 500 and 10,000 have been used to improve the wet and conditioned wrinkle recovery and smoothdrying characteristics of cotton fabrics. Durable press performance can then be achieved by treatment with said polymers in combination with a less than usual amount of cross-linking agent. Such a system produces a fabric with higher conditioned and wet wrinkle recovery and better breaking strength, tearing strength, and abrasion resistance than conventional treatment. These polymers also have been used in combination with preferential cross-linking and wet fixation methods to produce fabric with improved wrinkle recovery and increased abrasion resistance.

ACRYLIC FIBERS HAVING IMPROVED FLAME-RETARDANCY AND GOOD LUSTER COMPRISING AN ACRYLONITRILE POLYMER COMBINED WITH 2.0-15.0% OF AN AZIRIDINYLPHOSPHINE OXIDE OR SULFIDE BASED ON THE WEIGHT OF FIBER. SUCH FIBERS ARE MADE BY APPLYING A SOLUTION OF AN AZIRIDINYLPHOSPHINE OXIDE OR SULFIDE TO FIBERS OF ACRYLONITRILE POLYMER WHILE SUCH FIBERS ARE IN THE GEL STATE AND THEREAFTER HEATING THE TREATED GEL UNTIL THE AZIRIDINYLPHOSPHINE COMPOUND HAS CHEMICALLY COMBINDED WITH THE POLYMER. THE PREFERRED AZIRIDINYLPHOSPHINE COMPOUND USED IS TRIS-AZIRIDINYLPHOSPHINE OXIDE.
