Abstract: Aqueous surfactant compositions containing one or more alpha-sulfo fatty acid disalt (A) of general formula (I), R1CH(SO3M1)COOM2 (I), in which the radical R1 is a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl radical having 6 to 18 carbon atoms and the radicals M1 and M2, independently of one another, are selected from H, Li, Na, K, Ca/2, Mg/2, ammonium, and alkanolamine, one or more N-acyl amino acid compound (B) selected from glycinates of general formula (IIa), sarcosinates of general formula (IIb), α-alaninates of general formula (IIc), and β-alaninates of general formula (IId) R23—CO—NH—CH2—COOM13 (IIa) R23—CO—N(CH3)—CH2—COOM13 (IIb) R23—CO—NH—CH(CH3)—COOM13 (IIc) R23—CO—NH—CH2—CH2—COOM13 (IId), wherein the radical R23 in the compounds (IIa), (IIb), (IIc) and (IId) is a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl radical having 7 to 19 carbon atoms and the radical M13 is selected from H, Li, Na, K, Ca/2, Mg/2, ammonium, and alkanolamine, and water. The compositions have good foaming ability, pleasant sensory properties of the foam, and good skin compatibility, and are suitable for use as cosmetic agents, detergents, and cleaners.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for purifying crude α-sulfo fatty acid salt obtained by the reaction of fatty acid and sulfur oxides, comprising the following steps: a) diluting the crude α-sulfo fatty acid in a solvent and adjusting the ph from 2 to 4; b) heating up the slurry of a-sulfo fatty acid salt obtained in the step a) until being fully solubilized: c) cooling down the solution of α-sulfo fatty acid salt obtained in the step b) to room temperature gradually to obtain the crystals; d) filtering the crystal obtained in the step c) to remove the motherinsing the filter cake at least twice with acid aqueous solution to obtain the purified α-sulfo fatty acid salt.

The compositions have good foaming ability, good skin compatibility, and a pleasant sensory feel to the foam, and are suitable for cosmetic products detergents, and cleaners.

The compositions are transparent, storage-stable, characterized by good foaming ability and good viscosity, and are suitable for cosmetic products and also detergents and cleaners.
