Abstract: Disclosed herein are filtration articles comprising a porous ceramic structure comprising a plurality of channels separated by a plurality of porous interior walls, and a nanomembrane disposed on at least a portion of a surface of the porous ceramic structure, wherein the nanomembrane comprises nanoparticles of at least one inorganic oxide, and wherein the nanoparticles are present in a concentration ranging from about 0.001 g/L to about 1 g/L based on the total volume of the porous ceramic structure. Methods for making such filtration articles and methods for filtering a particulate from a fluid using such filtration articles are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are filtration articles comprising a porous ceramic structure comprising a plurality of channels separated by a plurality of porous interior walls, and a nanomembrane disposed on at least a portion of a surface of the porous ceramic structure, wherein the nanomembrane comprises nanoparticles of at least one inorganic oxide, and wherein the nanoparticles are present in a concentration ranging from about 0.001 g/L to about 1 g/L based on the total volume of the porous ceramic structure. Abstract: A honeycomb body having a porous ceramic honeycomb structure with a first end, a second end, and a plurality of walls having wall surfaces defining a plurality of inner channels. A highly porous layer is disposed on one or more of the wall surfaces of the honeycomb body. The highly porous layer has a porosity greater than 90%, and has an average thickness of greater than or equal to 0.5 μm and less than or equal to 10 μm. A method of making a honeycomb body includes depositing a layer precursor on a ceramic honeycomb body and binding the layer precursor to the ceramic honeycomb body to form the highly porous layer.

Abstract: A method for applying a surface treatment to a plugged honeycomb body comprising porous wall includes: mixing particles of an inorganic material with a liquid vehicle and a binder material to form a liquid-particulate-binder stream; mixing the liquid-particulate-binder stream with an atomizing gas, directing the liquid-particulate-binder stream into an atomizing nozzle thereby atomizing the particles into liquid-particulate-binder droplets comprised of the liquid vehicle, he binder material, and the particles; conveying the droplets toward the plugged honeycomb body by a gaseous carrier stream, wherein the gaseous carrier stream comprises a carrier gas and the atomizing gas; evaporating substantially all of the liquid vehicle from the droplets to form agglomerates comprised of the particles and the binder material; depositing the agglomerates onto the porous walls of the plugged honeycomb body; wherein the deposited agglomerates are disposed on, or in, or both on and in, the porous walls.

Abstract: A filtration article is disclosed comprising a plugged porous honeycomb filter body, deposits of inorganic particles within the plugged honeycomb filter body, the deposits having a porosity in a range of greater than 95% to less than or equal to 99.9% and an average thickness in a range of greater than or equal to 0.5 μm to less than or equal to 200 μm, and at least some of the inorganic particles being fused to each other and/or to the filter body. The particles are fused by one or more of low-melting inorganic particles, inorganic particles capable of chemical bonding organic fusion bonds or organic chemical bonds between inorganic particles coated with an organic binder.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed which apply inorganic particles to a plugged honeycomb body comprising porous walls, an inlet end and an outlet end.
