    Abstract: An integrated circuit for implementing at least a portion of a personal audio device may include an output for providing an output signal to a transducer, wherein the output signal includes a pilot signal, a microphone input for receiving a microphone signal from a microphone indicative of an output of the transducer, and a processing circuit. The processing circuit may be configured to implement a pilot signal control to apply an adjustment to the pilot signal as necessary to maintain the pilot signal at a substantially constant magnitude regardless of proximity of the transducer to a pinna and implement a proximity determination block configured to determine proximity of the transducer to the pinna based on the adjustment.

    Abstract: Detection of a blocked microphone involves receiving microphone signals from a plurality of microphones. A plurality of signal feature measures are derived from the microphone signals. The signal feature measures are normalised. The normalised signal feature measures are variably weighted in response to detected environmental conditions in the microphone signals. The variably weighted normalised signal feature measures are combined to produce an output indication of whether a microphone is blocked.

    Abstract: A device for measuring wind noise comprises at least a first microphone and a processor. A first signal and a second signal are obtained from the at least one microphone, the first and second signals reflecting a common acoustic input, and the first and second signals being at least one of temporally distinct and spatially distinct. The first signal is processed to determine a first distribution of the samples of the first signal. The second signal is processed to determine a second distribution of the samples of the second signal. From a difference between the first distribution and the second distribution a scalar non-binary metric reflecting an intensity of wind noise present in the first and second signals is derived, and output.

    Abstract: A method and device for detecting whether a headset is on ear. A probe signal is generated for acoustic playback from a speaker. A microphone signal from a microphone is received, the microphone signal comprising at least a portion of the probe signal as received at the microphone. The microphone signal is passed to a state estimator, to produce an estimate of at least one parameter of the portion of the probe signal contained in the microphone signal. The estimate of the at least one parameter is processed to determine whether the headset is on ear.
