Abstract:
The instant invention provides an aqueous dispersion, a coating composition, coating layers and coated article made therefrom. The coating composition according to the present invention comprises: (1) the inventive aqueous dispersion comprising the melt blending product of: (a) from 50 to 99 percent by weight of one or more first polyesters, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said one or more first polyesters have an acid number in the range of from less than 15, for example less than 10, or in the alternative less than 5, based on the total solid content of the one or more first polyesters; (b) from 1 to 50 percent by weight of one or more stabilizing agents comprising at least one second polyester, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said second polyester has a carboxylic acid group and an acid number equal to or greater than 15, for example greater than 20, based on the solid content of the second polyester; (c) one or more neutralizing agents; and (d) from 15 to 90 percent by weight of water, based on the total weight of the dispersion; wherein said dispersion has a solid content of 10 to 85 percent, based on the total weight of the dispersion; and (2) one or more cross-linking agents.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to an improved bitumen recovery process from oil sands. The oil sands may be surface mined and transported to a treatment area or may be treated directly by means of an in-situ process of oil sand deposits that are located too deep for strip mining. Specifically, the present disclosure involves the step of treating oil sands with a propylene oxide capped glycol ether described by the structure: RO—(CH2CH2O)m(CH2CH(CH3)O)nH wherein R is a linear, branched, cyclic alkyl, phenyl, or alkyl phenyl group of at least 4 carbons, and m and n are independently 1 to 3.
Abstract:
A method for optimizing a Hegman rating of a diluted emulsion including adjusting the shear work in the dilution mixer, wherein the adjusting the shear work may comprise raising or lowering the shear work; adjusting the temperature of the concentrated and/or diluted emulsion; if not earlier added, adding a basic aqueous solution and/or dispersing agent; adding one or more other additives; and/or adjusting the amount of any additive, basic solution or surfactant solution is provided. Also provided are diluted emulsions produced thereby and coatings made from the diluted emulsions.

Abstract:
A composition is provided comprising dispersed particles in an aqueous medium, wherein said dispersed particles comprise fatty amide and one or more fatty acid, wherein 50 mole % or more of said fatty acid in is the carboxylate form, and wherein the weight ratio of said fatty amide to said fatty acid is from 0.12:1 to 2.3:1. Also provided is method of making that composition, comprising the step of applying shear to a mixture that comprises said fatty amide, said fatty acid, and water, wherein said applying shear is performed at a temperature above 59° C., and wherein the amount of water in said mixture is 70% or less by weight based on the weight of said mixture.
Abstract:
An alkyd surfactant which is effective in emulsifying alkyd resins is formed by copolymerization of at least one monomer having a hydrophilic group, at least one ethylenically unsaturated fatty acid or ester, and optionally, at least one polyol, and has a low degree of branching. Stable alkyd emulsions are formed by emulsification of alkyd resins with the alkyd surfactant. Since the alkyd surfactant has ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobe groups which can react with the alkyd resin during curing, the alkyd surfactant is not subject to migration, blooming or leaching from cured coatings.
