Abstract:
A fuel injector includes fixed metal components, in particular an injector body, a solenoid actuator equipped with a retaining spring that holds a control valve stem, a control valve body including a seat for the control valve stem, a spacer between the body of the control valve and an injection nozzle, a control chamber, and an injection needle seat. The fuel injector also includes movable metal components, in particular the control valve stem and an armature thereof and an injection needle. Surfaces of the metal components that are in contact with one another are contact surfaces. Resistive surface coatings are arranged on a number of the contact surfaces. The overall electrical resistivity of the injector between the body of the solenoid actuator and the body of the injector varies by at least three distinct ohm values intermittently according to the kinetics of the injection needle of the injector.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a control valve for a fuel injector. The control valve has a control valve body which defines a supply passage for high pressure fuel. A control chamber and a pressure compensating chamber are provided in the control valve. The control chamber and the pressure compensating chamber are both in fluid communication with the supply passage. A control valve member is provided for controlling fuel pressure in the control chamber. The pressure compensating chamber is spaced radially outwardly from the control chamber. The invention also relates to a control valve member having a pressure compensating cavity.
Abstract:
A control valve assembly for controlling fuel pressure in a control chamber of a fuel injector. The control valve assembly comprising a valve member arranged in a bore provided in a valve housing, at least one of the valve member and the valve housing being moveable with respect to the other, wherein the valve member comprises a fuel-receiving cavity arranged to receive fuel that distorts at least a portion of the valve member so as to increase an external dimension thereof.
Abstract:
A subassembly for a high pressure fuel injector control valve includes, a control valve member and a sleeve attached to a stem of the control valve member, the sleeve extending along at least a partial axial length of the stem of the control valve member, and wherein a clearance, provided between the sleeve and the control valve member, is in fluid communication with the control chamber such that during use, pressure compensation occurs, as the sleeve is caused to expand and seal against the control valve bore, thereby preventing leakage of fuel within the control valve assembly.

Abstract:
A nozzle assembly of a fuel injector extends along a main axis and includes a nozzle body provided with an inner space divided in upstream chamber and downstream chamber and also with, a valve needle including a main elongated shaft slidably guided in said inner space and extending through-out both upstream and downstream chambers. The nozzle body and the valve needle cooperate to define throttle fluid communication means between upstream and downstream chambers inducing, in use, a pressure drop when fuel flows through. The nozzle assembly is further provided with a tubular sleeve arranged between the upstream chamber and the downstream chamber in abutment against a face of the body and being radially self-centred guided by a cylindrical face of the needle, the throttle means being arranged in said sleeve.
