A plurality of musical tone generating apparatuses of the same construction as the aforesaid musical tone generating apparatus can be connected in a cascade fashion to a single host electronic keyboard musical instrument.

Laser light, emitted from a laser light source, is formed into a converged light ray by a condensing lens, and deflected by a resonance mirror. The laser light that has been deflected is converged on a photosensitive member through a scanning lens. The scanning lens is constituted of one negative lens, and has at least one nonaxisymmetric face that provides the same power in the vicinity of the light axis in both of a main scanning direction and a sub-scanning direction. With this arrangement, even when a deflection angle in the resonance mirror is small, it is possible to shorten a distance from the resonance mirror to the photosensitive member, which is required for providing a desired scanning width. Moreover, it becomes possible to effectively carry out image-face curvature correction and groove-shaped aberration correction within a sub-scanning cross section and, also, to reduce the size of its own unit including the resonance mirror and the scanning lens. Consequently, a small-size laser scanning device with high precision can be achieved.

A plane mirror is disposed in an optical path after a polygon mirror which deflects laser light. Incident light to and reflected light on the polygon mirror has no angle in an auxiliary scanning direction and the polarization direction of laser light is inclined relative to a plane (deflection plane) including the incident light to and the reflected light on the polygon mirror. An inclination angle and inclination direction of the light deflection direction of the laser light, an inclination angle of the plane mirror are configured so as to satisfy predetermined conditions. With such a configuration, a change in reflectance on the polygon mirror accompanying a change in deflection angle can be cancelled or alleviated by a change in reflectance on the plane mirror accompanying the change in deflection angle, and a difference in light quantity distribution on a photosensitive member on the left and right sides thereof is alleviated in comparison with a difference in reflectance to be caused by the polygon mirror.

An assignment order setting section selects desired channels and establishes an order of assignment of the selected channels. In the channels whose assignment order has been established, tones whose tonal quality are different from one another are formed. Tones of different tonal quality are formed between different groups.
