    Abstract: A rotor assembly for an electric machine includes first laminates, second laminates; and a rotor shaft, wherein the first laminates and the second laminates are arranged in a stack on the rotor shaft. Each of the first laminates includes a first inner portion and a plurality of first outer portions, wherein the first inner portion and the first outer portions define a plurality of first cavities, wherein the plurality of first outer portions are secured to the first inner portions via a plurality of bridges. Each of the second laminates includes a second inner portion and a plurality of second outer portions. The second inner portion and the plurality of second outer portions define a plurality of second cavities, wherein the second outer portions are secured to the second inner portions via a plurality of second webs and are absent a bridge.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and vehicles are provided for determining a stator resistance value of an electric motor. The systems may include the electric motor including a stator and a rotor; a sensor system including configured to generate sensor data indicative of sensed operating conditions of the electric motor including a current magnitude, a current angle, a motor speed, a temperature of the stator, and a temperature of the rotor; and a controller operably coupled with the sensor system and the electric motor. The controller is configured to: determine an initial stator resistance value based on a stator reference temperature and either estimated data sensor data received from the sensor system; determine a stator temperature coefficient based on the sensor data and a stator nonlinear resistance ratio curve; and determine the stator resistance value based on the initial stator resistance value and the stator temperature coefficient.

    Abstract: An interior permanent magnet (IPM) electric machine has an improved rotor configuration to manage mechanical stresses induced by electro-magnetic force acting upon permanent magnets housed therein. This includes providing magnet cavities in the rotor with sufficient clearances in the corners wherein a portion of a slot corner is formed with certain curvature shapes using a novel geometry. By doing this, more surface area is obtained to evenly distribute stress that is induced by centrifugal force acting upon the rotor during rotation, thus reducing the stress concentration. Furthermore, an expanded space is achieved between the magnet corner and the rotor lamination, thus providing robust packaging and dynamic support of the permanent magnets in the magnet cavities. Furthermore, the expanded space provides improved clearance for ease of manufacturing and assembly.
