Abstract: Laminated glass speaker systems include at least one pair of asymmetrical piezoelectric exciters within a laminating material used to effectively bond glass panels together. The laminated glass speaker system can be utilized about the vehicle anywhere sound generation is desired, e.g., passenger windows, fixed or sliding roofing systems, front windshield, rear windshield, side windows, rear quarter glasses, and the like. The piezoelectric exciters are generally off-axis relative to a centerline longitudinally extending between the glass panels and act as a diaphragm to produce sound upon vibration.

Abstract: Laminated vehicle glass structures included printed piezoelectric actuators for sound generation. Ring-shaped piezoelectric actuators are printed on an inner surface of a selected one of the exterior glass panel or interior glass panel. The printed piezoelectric actuators are offset relative to a centerline longitudinally extending between the opposing glass panels. Also disclosed are processes for forming the laminated glass structures including at least one printed piezoelectric actuator. The laminated glass structures can be utilized about the vehicle anywhere sound generation is desired, e.g., passenger windows, sunroofs, front windshield, rear windshield, and the like. The printed ring-shaped piezoelectric actuators act as a diaphragm to produce sound upon excitation.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure include using piezoelectric devices to break laminated glass assemblies on demand (e.g., a windshield of a vehicle). An exemplary vehicle includes a laminated glass panel having an outer glass layer, an inner glass layer, and a bonding layer between the outer glass layer and the inner glass layer. The vehicle further includes a piezoelectric device including an actuator and a displaceable element coupled to the actuator. The actuator is made of a piezoelectric material that, responsive to receiving an activation voltage, induces a mechanical displacement in the displaceable element against at least one of the outer glass layer and the inner glass layer. The vehicle includes a controller electrically coupled to the actuator. The controller is configured to deliver the activation voltage to the actuator.

Abstract: A system includes a laminated glass comprising a protective layer disposed between two sheets of glass. The system includes a resistive conductive coating made of a first electrically conducting material disposed on a surface of one of the two sheets of glass facing the protective layer. The system includes a second set of electrodes made of a third electrically conducting material disposed on the first set of electrodes. The second set of electrodes is electrically connected to the first set of electrodes, respectively. The third electrically conducting material of the second set of electrodes is more ductile than the second electrically conducting material of the first set of electrodes.
