Abstract: A locomotive engine control system includes one or more processors operably connected to fuel supply devices. The fuel supply devices are configured to supply fuel into different corresponding cylinders of an engine. The one or more processors are configured to monitor a fuel quantity injected into the cylinders of the engine before and after communication of an overfuel control signal. The overfuel control signal commands the fuel supply device corresponding to a first cylinder of the cylinders to supply excess fuel into the first cylinder. Responsive to the fuel quantity that is monitored not decreasing after the communication of the overfuel control signal, the one or more processors are configured to determine that the fuel supply device corresponding to the first cylinder is defective, and may generate one or more control signals indicative of the fuel supply device corresponding to the first cylinder being defective.

Abstract: A route examination system determines a characteristic of a vehicle system traveling over a segment of a route under inspection, a characteristic of the route, and/or a characteristic of movement of the vehicle system over the segment of the route. The system also detects acoustic sounds generated by movement of the vehicle system over the segment of the route. The system selects a baseline signature representative of acoustic sounds generated by movement of the vehicle system or another vehicle system over a healthy segment of the route, and determines that the segment of the route under inspection is damaged based on a comparison between the baseline signature and the acoustic sounds generated by the movement of the vehicle system over the segment of the route under inspection.

Abstract: A hybrid AC and DC distribution system includes a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), a DC distribution bus, an AC/DC converter, an AC distribution bus, and a DC/AC converter. The DFIG includes a rotor and a stator, and is configured to generate a first AC power at the rotor and a second AC power at the stator. The AC/DC converter is coupled to the rotor and the DC distribution bus. The AC/DC converter converts the first AC power to a first DC power at a first node for delivery to a first load through the DC distribution bus. The DC/AC converter is coupled between the first node and a second node coupled to the stator and the AC distribution bus. The DC/AC converter converts the first DC power to the second AC power at the second node for delivery to a second load through the AC distribution bus.
