Abstract: Methods and systems for detecting and limiting the water in a photoionization detector are provided. The method may include powering off a lamp configured to ionize particles of air. The method may also include monitoring a signal from the photoionization detector. The signal may be monitored based on a current between a signal electrode and a bias electrode. In an instance the signal is above a signal threshold, the method may also include electrolyzing one or more particles of water present in the photoionization detector by closing a leakage switch in order to allow current to flow through the bias electrode and the signal electrode. In an instance the signal is below the signal threshold, the method may include powering on the lamp to begin photoionization detection. Corresponding systems are also provided.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a one-piece structure for a solid electrolyte chemical sensor (SECS) having a first surface defining a cavity designed to receive a substrate that retains a solid electrolyte, an internal water impermeable coating on at least a portion of the first surface, a second surface that is substantially coplanar with an adjacent peripheral edge of a top surface of the substrate when the substrate is received in the cavity, and a plurality of electrical contacts disposed on the second surface adapted to electrically couple with the electrodes on the substrate when the substrate is received in the cavity and electrical paths are provided between respective electrical contacts and electrodes. In an illustrative example, the internal water impermeable coating may include a metallic material, such as gold. In various embodiments, the one-piece structure may advantageously prevent water loss from both the sensor substrate and the SECS.

Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying contamination of an electrochemical sensor (10) and cleaning the electrochemical sensor (10) are provided. A method may comprise scanning the sensor (10) for the first time using CV to generate a reference set of readings; scanning the sensor (10) for the second time after the sensor (10) has been employed; comparing a second set of readings from the second CV scan to the reference set of readings; when the second set of readings is different from the reference set of readings, determining that the sensor (10) potential has shifted; scanning the sensor (10) for the third time to clean one or more elements of the sensor (10); scanning the sensor (10) for the fourth time; comparing a fourth set of readings from the fourth CV scan to the second set of readings; and determining that the potential of the sensor (10) has shifted due to pollution of the sensor (10), and/or that the sensor (10) can be further cleaned.

Abstract: Embodiments relate generally to an ultraviolet lamp (100) for use with a photoionization detector comprising a sealed tube (102) configured to contain at least one gas; a coating (120) applied to the inner surface (110) of the sealed tube (102); and a crystal window (112) attached to the sealed tube (102), configured to allow transmittance of ultraviolet (UV) light generated within the sealed tube (102). Additional embodiments include a method of forming an ultraviolet lamp (100) for use with a photoionization detector, the method comprising applying at least one layer of a coating (120) onto an inner surface (110) of a sealed tube (102); sealing a crystal window (112) onto the sealed tube (102); filling the sealed tube (102) with at least one gas; sealing the sealed tube (102) containing the at least one gas; generating ultraviolet radiation using the at least one gas within the sealed tube (102); and directing the generated ultraviolet radiation through the crystal window (112) toward a sample gas in the photoionization detector.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems for providing an alternating current (AC) voltage supply for a photoionization detector lamp from a direct current (DC) voltage source are provided. An example apparatus may include a DC voltage to DC voltage (DC/DC) converter circuitry, and a feedback circuitry that is electronically coupled to the DC/DC converter circuitry and converts a reference AC voltage to a feedback DC voltage for the DC/DC converter circuitry. In some examples, the feedback circuitry may be electronically coupled to a DC voltage to AC voltage (DC/AC) converting circuitry to obtain the reference AC voltage.
