Abstract:
Apparatus comprising at least one rotatably driven drum having a circumferential filter medium adjacent which pressurized liquid suspension containing fibrous material is supplied in the rotary direction of the drum driven rotation. One or more baffles, having low friction material on their surfaces opposing the filter medium, are resiliently biased by pressurized liquid and/or mechanical biasing means to gradually converge towards the filter medium in the rotary direction of the drum driven rotation, and fibrous material collected on the filter medium may be washed by either the biasing liquid or separately supplied pressurized liquid. Also, a method for processing a suspension containing fibrous material through the employment of such an apparatus.
Abstract:
Gaseous reaction apparatus including a generally vertical vessel, a conduit for supplying gas to the upper end of the vessel, a conduit for causing material to be blown into the upper end of the vessel by gas discharged from the latter, and an outlet for discharging material from the lower end of the vessel. A gas receiving chamber peripherally of the vessel is open to the vessel intermediate the ends of the latter for receiving a carrier or other gas from a gas-material mixture in the vessel, and an outlet is provided for discharging gas from the gas receiving chamber. One use for this gaseous reaction apparatus is in the gaseous bleaching of pulp.
Abstract:
Apparatus comprising a vessel, means for compacting material and supplying the compacted material to the vessel, means for breaking-up the compacted material and spreading the broken-up material in the vessel, means for supplying gas to the vessel, and discharge means for discharging material in compacted condition, such discharge means including a discharge opening and flap means causing material to be discharged therethrough in said compacted condition. A rotatably driven platform divides the vessel into communicating retention and discharge chambers and controls the passage of material from the retention chamber to the discharge chamber; and the retention chamber is connected to the material and gas supplying means and contains the material breaking-up and spreading means, while the discharge chamber is provided with a large, offset, discharge opening and contains a scraper movable thereover.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing an annular grid structure (such as the cylindrical honeycomb drums employed by the pulp and paper making industry) from separate planar and waved strips, comprising the steps of helically winding the strips in alternate arrangement on the annular outer surface of a mandrel whereby the wound strips form an axial build-up of the grid structure on the mandrel, during said winding interconnecting adjacent coils of the strips by successively connecting portions of the planar strip with the waved strip as said portions of the planar strip are initially laid onto the mandrel while said portions being connected are substantially locally heated; and permitting the heated, connected portions of the planar strip to successively cool while wound on the mandrel, so as to stress the metal of the planar strips beyond the elastic limit.
