Abstract:
A method and apparatus for efficiently selecting a demodulation scheme for a particular channel in a digital broadcast receiver supporting a plurality of demodulation schemes are provided. The method includes receiving the digital broadcast signal of the channel; attempting demodulation of the digital broadcast signal using a demodulation scheme corresponding to a sequential index; and if the demodulation attempt succeeds, restoring data and if the demodulation attempt does not succeed, attempting demodulation again using a demodulation scheme corresponding to a next sequential index.
Abstract:
Provided are a method and a device for booting a host embodying a downloadable conditional access system (DCAS), wherein one of a plurality of pre-determined booting modes is decided as a booting mode of the host based on first information indicating whether a host can communicate with a broadcasting service provider and second information indicating whether a software-based security client providing information required for decrypting broadcasting data is installed to a hardware-based security module connected to the host, and the host is booted in the decided booting mode.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for filtering section data are provided. The filtering apparatus includes: a mask generation unit which generates a mask to be used for filtering section data based on a section number in a digital broadcasting receiver and the mask generation unit determines whether to generate the mask based on an accumulated number of bit number 0 or 1 at each bit position of a section number already stored in the receiver. According to the method and apparatus, a section number of section data received and stored by a receiver is not directly compared to a next received section number, and by using a mask generated based on the accumulated number of the received bit numbers, filtering is performed such that the time for performing filtering is reduced.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of providing additional content in a digital broadcast reception apparatus, the method including receiving a locator of additional content from a broadcast server while a user watches a broadcast program, receiving an instruction to insert the additional content from the broadcast server, receiving and reproducing the additional content from a content providing server designated by the locator, and switching back to the broadcast program. Thus, it is not necessary to allocate a separate channel and/or to switch channels for providing additional content.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for processing a timeout in a device that complies with the DSG standard are provided. The method includes detecting whether a Tdsg4 timeout has occurred in the first device; and transmitting a Tdsg4 timeout message indicating that a Tdsg4 timeout has occurred in the first device to a second device that complies with the DSG standard in response to the detection of a Tdsg4 timeout.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for communication between an embedded cable modem and an embedded set-top box in a DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG)-based digital broadcast receiving apparatus are provided. The apparatus includes an embedded cable modem which receives or transmits messages from or to an embedded set-top box through a number of unidirectional ports according to message types.
